I have recently put together a torch using a lumens factory 18650 e series body which states only single wrapped unprotected batteries may be used.

I had some unprotected batteries that appeared to be double wrapped, a clear wrap over a red wrap underneath. They did fit inside the body double wrapped but with zero wriggle room, so I removed the outer wrap no problem.

But once I removed it it left the edges of a white disk surrounding the bottom top exposed that appears to be stuck on but is lifting slightly on one side.

I am worried if I remove this disk there will be nothing surrounding the button underneath or that it is part of the button that will come off with it leaving a flat top.
As it is with the edges exposed as they are it looks like I have left it vulnerable to damage.
Should I remove this white disk.
Leave it be, or should I not have removed the outer wrap in the first place?

If it did fit there was no need to remove the wrap, you can always use a magnet to remove stuck batteries or unscrew the head to push it though with your finger.

The disk is an electrical insulator and should not be removed. Best would be to use some new shrink wrap of the correct size (the cell should be able slide in without much excess room) and re-wrap the cell to keep it together.

thanks, so if the battery goes in its fine and you don't have to leave any room to allow for expansion?

Thanks, double wrapped the battery slides in and out with gravity but satisfyingly slowly like a gas strut.

...

You can take the disc off. The shrink wrap appears to cover the top edge of the cell. Also, the buttons are almost always (never seen one that was not) spot welded on, or are part of the positive nipple itself.

One thing... you say 'bottom' but it appears you actually mean 'top' or the positive/nipple end???

It meant to say button not bottom., I just lifted off the disc and the red wrap goes over the top but there is not another insulater underneath. I have ordered some new wraps so will re wrap it when they arrive.

There's an insulating layer between the sides and button. So unless the positive spring/terminal/"whatever's inside your light" shorts between the nipple and negative, you're fine.

Or just super glue the disc in place and let it ride.

Yeah. You can let it ride. Those 3 dots around the nipple are spot welds that binds it to the flat positive terminal underneath it.
