You might be surprised at the answer I got from Maglight in Nov 2003, when I asked them "How long will it take a 4D maglight to with new batteries to drop to 50% of it's original brightness?"
I have cut and pasted the entire email exchange, except Maglight did not quote my orginal question in their reply. I was quite surprised so I rephrased the question to clarify.
You need to read from the bottom up. At the bottom is their response to my first question. Above that is my second question to them asking them to confirm their response to my first. Does that make sense?

Greg:
Our test show that the voltage decreases from 30-50% within the first
30 minutes of on time.

Thank you for your quick reply concerning my query on runtime of a
set of batteries to 50% of initial brightness.
I was surprised however by your reply that it took only 20-30 minutes
to drop to 50% of initial brightness.
Although I did not specify, can you confirm this is correct? With
fresh alkaline batteries?
