I just got my first charger and li-ion cells a few days ago. I've noticed that the AW 18650 flat top cells are a tight fit in the Cytac charger (BTW, which was almost DOA, but that's for another thread). As a result, the surface of the metal plate at the negative end (with the three bumps) is getting scratched up from the sliding terminals' (correct term?) rough edges. I'd say they are more surface scratches than gouges, but I'm nevertheless concerned that this might adversely affect the cells' performance, if not now then eventually if and when it gets worse.

Is this scratching bad, or even dangerous, for the batteries and, if so, why exactly? Is this a common problem? Is there something I can do to avoid scratching? Many thanks.

The 0.3mm thick steel plate is added for the protection of the pcb from tail spring / charger bites. Surface scratch won't do any damage at all. It will need a lot of gouging to really damage the steel plate. Do you mean the 18650 or the charger DOA?

FYI, the protection pcb has cut off point of 2.5V - low cut off and 4.25V - high cut off. Your P18650-2600 will not exhibit any adverse effect even the charger in question may not have terminated properly.

My e24 is on the driveway and the bonnet wont open cuz of all the ice..its freezing *** cold.. the battery has gone way weak and I cant get the battery charger hooked up cuz of the frozen shut hood..so I was thinking.. what if I rig up a 12v cig plug adaptor and charge it thru there? Think Ive heard of this done before...
