I'm now looking for a 50/50 throw/flood light in the 100-150 range. I've been looking at tons of beam shots and I've narrowed it down to the M30 Triton, TK40, and M1X.

I keep going back and forth between going more throw/flood... throw gives a big wow factor but something like the rrt-1 doesn't give out near as much flood as the floody M30 but that kind of light isn't "wow". My TK10 seems to be a good mix with a nice hot spot and decent spill but now I want more.

Any suggestions for either?

Once again, the JetBeam M1x would be a wise decision. Any MC-E emitter is going to give you a good spill beam, but the reflector design of the M1x focuses more of that light for throw than most. Best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned.

There have been a LOT of debates about these three lights as of late, and most people opt for the M1x or the M30. Do a quick search and try to locate these previous threads, there is a mass quantity of discussion about all three, with some input from LEOs and professionals.

THIS professional says go with the M1x :naughty:
They are all great lights, hence the debates.

The Fenix TK40 has more output and a better balanced beam than any of the other lights you've listed. It and the Legion are really the only two flashlights that make the most of the multi-die emitter.

If you're going for pure wow factor, and don't need the flashlight for actual duty, there's the Stanley HID3000; ~3000 lumens for $70 at your local Wal-Mart. A plastic case and modest runtime mean it's not for hard use, but having more light in your hand than all the lights on a police cruiser on at once is certainly "wow"..

TK40 is like holding a tree trunk, and the M1X is too long. The M30 is just right.

I know its not in your short list, but the Eagletac M2 can be had for ~US$ 90 right now from EagleTac store.

There is also the Solarforce Masterpiece, at an attractive price, which offers a good balance of throw/flood, and is the approximate length of the M1X.
