whats the best brand of 123 battery aside from sf?? looking for a cheaper alternative. tenergy? panasonic?

SF doesn't make their batteries, Panasonic OEM does.

All "Made In USA" CR123A primary cells (Panasonic, Energizer, Duracell, Rayovac, Streamlight, Surefire, Battery Station) are all made by Panasonic OEM in Georgia.

The Battery Station cells are the best value for a high quality cell @ $1.25 each with CPF discount or the real bargain - 50 batteries for $60.00.

Really? huh. I never knew that. You can tell I don't know the first thing about lights.

Even though they're made in the same place they are still made different due to manufacturer's specifications.

For example, BatteryStation are 1400mAh as opposed to Duracell's 1550mAh.

But you have to consider also the bang for the buck. The break given by BatteryStation is excellent and the service is fast. I just received 50 last week and if you consider everything, S&H etc, the BS batteries come out to $1.20 each.

I know how much people tend to think of ebay as the devil's advocate for lithium cells here, but I got a really damn good deal on some cr123as.. 24 genuine Panasonic USA cells (2016 expiry, the ones which I've opened have tested 100% so far) for $22 shipped.

If you buy sealed name-brand cells from a reputable seller on ebay, and can find a good deal (like the one I got), you're golden! Otherwise, Batterystation seems to be the weapon of choice for most CPF'ers.

Risky business...

Counterfeit products are on the rise and batteries are no exception. DX has counterfeit eneloops (very close replica), SF look-a-likes (obvious what they were going for but easily identifiable if you know what to look for)...

Many ebay sellers get their inventory from the same wholesalers that DX gets their stuff. Being a reputable seller does not prevent them from inadvertently receiving and selling a counterfeit product.

If you can confirm the legitimacy of the cells then ebay may be fine. I don't think it's for everyone.

Would anyone recommend rechargeable cr123 batteries?
and would it produce the amount of light to that of non-rechargable ones.

Thanks!

Would anyone recommend rechargeable cr123 batteries?
It depends on a few things.
1) Is the light used regularly or occasionally?
2) Can the light handle the extra voltage of RCR123 rechargeable batteries?
RCR123/16340 cells have a usable voltage range of 3.6v/3.7v to 4.2v which may :poof: some lights, whereas a primary CR123A is 3.0v.

and would it produce the amount of light to that of non-rechargable ones.
Due to the increased voltage of RCR123/16340 cells, they may actually produce more light since it is possible, depending on the driver in the flashlight, that you could end up direct driving the LED.

You will get less runtime since the capacity of a RCR123/16340 cell is about 1/3 that of a primary CR123A cell.

Oh. I think im looking for the cr123A which has 3.0v as im looking for more runtime

I have 2 G2Ls which my dad and i use everyday for 1 - 1 1/2 hours. the battery lasts for 5 - 6 days. Cr123A arent very cheap. so we were thinking of getting rechargable one. Any recommendation?

Thanks.

We're veering a bit off topic, but since you are dealing with a 2xCR123A light, you would be better served by going to a larger rechargeable cell instead of 2 small ones.

17670 cells (same size as 2 CR123A cells) will fit the G2L and will give you runtime similar to what you get now with CR123A primary cells.

The AW cells are very good cells and are available in the Marketplace.
They may seem a bit expensive at first, but if you are going through 2 pairs of CR123A cells in a week, you will recoup the costs almost immediately.

Here is a link to a thread with some info regarding that exact combination.
