Just wondering what you guys thought the best best mount to mount a heavy (m1x) light to handlebars in rough riding situations.

Was hoping for something:
- strong
- easily adjustable
- not too heavy by itself

Thanks

I have yet to find a good handlebar mount for my flashlights. The reason is that they all seem to be designed with the assumption that the bar is perpendicular to the direction of travel in the spot where the light is mounted. I don't have a straight bar, so that isn't the case for me.

The best of the bad designs that I've come across (I've tried a bunch) is Fenix's mount. It's very secure, yet quickly and easily mounted/unmounted to/from the bar or light. If you have a straight bar, the design works very well, and meets/exceeds all of your requirements. If you don't have a straight bar, then it might require some effort to get the light properly and consistently aimed.

JCD, the Twofish bikeblocks are designed to mount parallel.

Right. They make a model designed to mount parallel to the bar and a model designed to mount perpendicular to the bar. Unfortunately, my bar is neither parallel nor perpendicular to the direction of travel, so neither Twofish style works for me.

For those with straight bars: For security, the Fenix mount is superior to the Twofish. I'm pretty certain the Twofish mount is quite a bit lighter, though. Personally, I don't worry about weight, to a point anyway, so security is more important to me. Others try to shave every fraction of an ounce possible, so the Twofish blocks are a better choice for those folks.

Thanks guys - I'll check those out! I got caught out last night after dark... I found it was pretty easy to hold a quark mini 123 in my mouth and gave me lots of say in where I pointed it :) (I was worried about choking on it if I crashed though!)

Instead of riding with a light in my mouth which seems awfully dangerous, I grip a light with a tail flange (like the MiNi) between my index and middle finger while holding onto the handlebars. Locks your light right into place and is very usable.

I have a headband on which I can mount 1-2 lights, effectively converting the flashlights into headlamps. Mine is made by Fenix, but I've seen other brands (though I can't recall what those brands were at the moment).

See mine at Fenix's Web site here: http://www.fenixlight.com/viewproduct.asp?id=91

I typically use the headband in conjunction with bar lights, not by itself.

(I'm not trying to plug Fenix. I'm not a fan of their lights, but I've been satisfied with their cycling accessories.)

I use a twofish on the bars and one on the helmet--works great.

also, two hose clamps work great, too--maybe not too pretty, but cheap and secure.

Ive used zip ties with my mini 123 - I put it on the
master cylinder on my brake lever and get a perfect angle
pointing about 3 ft infront of my tire. I like my bar lights pointed
down close n floody with a spot on the head/helmet.
clicky lights work better tho.

I like adding a big ole SST50 to my headlamps strap
for double fisted action!!

most helmet mount options dont work with a full face ;(

I have carbon fiber riser bars on my mountain bike, and the only thing that comes close to satisfactory is the Nite Ize Light Ride. It is a piece of rubber that threads through itself and uses tension to hold a light to the handlebar. I used it with a 1xaa light. Larger lights get wiggly.

When it broke I just made my own with old innertubes, haven't had a problem since. I do wish there was something better though.
