I am looking at getting a couple of 17670 batteries. AW is my default battery, but I saw that ultrafire has the 17670 cell at 1800mAh. Numbers aren't everything. Before I get anything, I would like your opinions.

If experience means anything for comparison I've got Ultrafire 18350 1200mAh cells. Running at just under 1A they gave ~850 mAh of performance.

Running the same light (a HO-E1R @ 0.85A) on an AW 17670 rated at 1600mAh I got about 1550 mAh of performance.

i hear ya, crazy. It would take some convincing to move me away from AW.

I am 99% certain I know the answer to this, but:

Since the question was originally asked in the spring, are there any higher capacity 17670 cells on the market, or, is the de facto AW standard still the way to go?

I use my AW 17670s in a McGizmo Ti 2-Pak Clicky - which wasn't designed for 17670s, but the AW ones just fit with the silver lables removed. The Ultrafire I've tried have been too large a diameter (so they get used in my McGizmo 27LT XP-G)

5 years ago I purchased 9@ unprotected Panasonic CGR17670hg cells rated at 1500 mAh minimum. I recently tested 5 of them at a 337 mA discharge rate - the only rate my charger will execute. Four tested out between 1650 mAh and 1708 mAh and the "bad one" tested out at 1481 mAh, a "mere" 99% of original specced capacity.

I have several protetected Copia, Pila, and Wolf-Eyes 17670's of roughly the same age rated at 1400 mAh. They currently test out between 1185 mAh and 1368 mAh.

The Panasonic cells are thinner and are the only 17670's that I can fit into some lights that were designed solely for CR123's.

Accordingly, if I were in the market for more 17670's I might buy 9 of these Sony cells for $19.20 delivered because (1) I can't locate any Panasonic cells, and (2) I expect the Sony cells are significantly underrated:

Thank you very much. I was about to ask about Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, etc. I know that Panasonic and Samsung 18650 cells are very highly regarded, but I was not sure about the availability of 17670 cells by those brands.

I will keep an eye on those Sonys, and as long as my intended host has a low voltage warning, they will be on my shortlist.
