You would need a very large reflector to get good throw from a P7. SKU 22573 probably has their best P7 throw, but it isn't in the class of a real thrower. I wouldn't consider it without a modification like the controller upgrade in the DX discussions. If you are considering one of the >40$ lights you won't find one with much throw.
I got P7s for the boat, car and house and ordered three different lights so I could choose ones with best features for different uses (19767, 12060 & 18650). It doesn't make sense to me having just a single high priced light and having to transport it constantly to where it might be used. A cheap functioning light in the glovebox in an emergency is infinitely better than the greatest light in the world sitting at home. All three have functioned perfectly.
The one that will light things better at a distance is the SpiderFire 2 mode (19767). It is at least as floody as the others, but it is also considerably brighter with a freshly charged battery.
That brightness comes at a cost. It has no controller. Modes are controlled by the switch. You make a full click to go High/Low/Off. If you are on high you have to click through low to get it off. Momentary on the switch just interrupts the light but doesn't change anything since there isn't a controller.
The light is overdriven without a controller – over 3A with a freshly charged battery. That is why it is so bright. It gets hot very quickly and would probably self-destruct if you left it on setting somewhere unmonitored. No danger of that if you are holding it because it becomes uncomfortably hot to hold for much over 5 minutes.
The SpiderFire could use an extra medium/high mode. Something around 250 lumens. The tactical crown is a nuisance.
The Spiderfire is small and light compared to the others. No responsible manufacturer would ever make anything like it. It is probably overpriced compared to the other DX P7s since it is so primitive and light. I love mine. It is my favorite DX P7 and probably my favorite light.
But if you want a practical light that can run for long periods on high I would recommend another light. Neither of my other P7s are one or two mode lights, so you will need input from other members.
If you are primarily interested in throw on the cheap consider SKU 14450. I can shine my Spiderfire on something from 100 feet away and the little X2000 will burn a rectangular hole in it. The spot is several times as bright as the Spiderfire's throw. What I find the X2000 very handy for is spotting channel markers in the distance without reflections off the deck ruining my night vision. The X2000 also has a good flood when you zoom out.
