I am in the market for a HID spotlight.
I have alot of other lights, that fill just about any need possible, but I am missing the spotlight part.

I have a couple 1.5 MCP spotlights for my truck, that plug into the cig lighter.
But I dont have any good portable spotlights.

Here are my requirments.
- Under $200
- At LEAST 1 hour runtime. I would rather have at least 2 really, or at least dimmable.
- Can be rechargable, or use D or C batts.
- Has to be Kumkang, or Maxabeam style design.

I am not against building one either, just not sure what host/HID system will go together well.
My favorite host I have seen, are the Pelican LiteKing dive lights. (good shape, 8C batts)

I would really like to get up around 1 MCP, but I am not sure if that is really possible for this price.
HID drives the cost way up, but I dont want to use just incan. Cuz I want good runtime and effeciency.

Anyone know about how many CP the UK Light Cannon is? This light sorta fits what I am looking for, but I am thinking its not all the bright.

Thanks for the help guys.

Yes, I think I recall it being 450 lumens, thats alot,
But how does that compare in CP? Or can you not really compare the two?

You can always drop in a Mag reflector like Lambda did if the stock beam isnt tight enough for you. I think for under $200, the LC is your only choice.

The Light Cannon isn't going to match your 1.5M Candlepower spotlights. The brightness is in the range of your halogen rechargeables like the Magcharger, Tigerlight, Ultrastinger. The LC is 450 lumens but in reality it isn't THAT much brighter than a good halogen, especially if you are looking for something to match your big spotlights.

The closest you can get is McCulloch's X990 which is around 350-400 dollars. Or you can try to make your own like i am and buy a used car HID ballast and bulb for around 150-200 dollars. THen mod one of your spotlights with the HID engine and a nice 12V SLA battery.

Any tips on where to get a small 30W HID system?
I have a Brinkmann spotlight, that holds 4D batts, I think its large enough to fit this in.
But I dont know much at all about the kits, or the batts needed.

Ticey,

Look here, it looks that Welch Allyn has add some 19,22 and 25W ballast on boards to their line up, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif they may fit in you Brinkman.

Ebay is your other option you should be able to find an automotive D2S and Hella ballast on the cheep.

Thanks alot Sway, !

Those look VERY promissing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I will have to find some time to look into those.
Depending on the bulb and bulb base needed, I think they will fit well.

How about this;
#1 $25 Home Depot Husky 12 volt rechargeable 2 million cp spotlight with 100 watt h3 bulb.(host housing with battery).

#2 get half an hid car kit with 35 watt hid h3 bulb with ballast. (perhaps a returned kit where one had failed and take that off the car accessory store's hands for a steal.)
Persistance will be key on this one.

#3 Squeeze ballast into housing wherever it will go, or put on outside of housing.

#4 Put in h3 hid bulb or shoehorn a more common h4 hid bulb into socket.
The run time in stock form is 20 minutes.
It should go up to 50-60 minutes modded at 35 watts.

#5 Good luck.

edit:
Oops, I just read back up further to Ledagent's post.
Ledagent beat me to that one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
