Apologies for making two threads in as many days. I asked before about a decent all round light for emergencies such as power cuts, so I can light up a hallway well and also be able to see my way around outside pretty clearly. After reading around it seems Romisen's are usually good quality for the price-point. So I've basically read reviews on DX, tried to find popular models. I imagine they're quite similiar but out of the ones below, can someone tell me which the best choice would probably be? I don't mind what battery type I use, if it can take multiple types then I'd prefer which ever makes it brightest, I assume that's 18650 batteries?
Anyway here we go...

Romisen RC-N3
Romisen RC-G4
Romisen RC-K4

I imagine most in this sort of price range $15-25 are similar, but it doesn't hurt to ask if there's a winner out of the bunch.

The rc-n3 is very popular but I found the hotspot a bit too tight for my tastes.

I think you should also check out the rc-c6 which is a favorite of mine and can be used with an extension tube to make it 2xAA.

I think you should also consider the romisen rc-m4 which is a p60 host so you have the option of easy upgrades in the future.

You might also want to consider the skyray sr5 from DX which is also a p60 host and I personally really like mine.

I like the RC-N3. The new R4 version from shiningbeam.com is a bit more floody than the Q5 version, or the P4 version sold by DX.

all good choices BUT order them from shiningbeam, you pay for shipping but Bryan ships usually within 24 hours AND he checks the lights too, great customer service as well, ordered a light once and it came without accessories and after emailing Bryan, he sent it with my next order. Discount code "CPFuser"

I've owned and gifted the RC N3 II Q5 and the RC N3 warm white (single mode) to friends who have loved the lights, durable and reliable for its price point.

I have the Romisen RC-N3 and am very pleased with it. The power went out in our subdivision a couple months ago around 10:30 pm. Wife and I went outside to see what was happening. I handed her the RC-N3. It made the neighbor's flashlights look puny. Plus I like the glow in the dark tail cap feature. I was using my Coleman MAX which worked well but the RC-N3 was brighter. Just my 2¢ worth.

+1 for the N3 lights. Gave a pair to my boys. Both were stunned by the output w/ AA eneloops. Then #1 son noticed that it would work w/ 123 cell, so he uses a 2nd N3 w/ 123s as his "glovebox" light. #2 son liked the 123 version so he bougth 2 N3s and gave one to wife. Now both use N3 EDC. Both still have original N3 w/ Q5 emitter as their "house" lights.

Great light, and versatile. If I didn't have a stack of 18650s lights I'd have several N3s. Get 'em from ShiningBeam, he makes certain everything works before shipping and stands behind his gear if there's a problem.

Note that shiningbeam has their own customized versions of many Romisen lights with more recent emitters and multiple modes. I would highly recommend buying from there since you will get your lights much faster than DX, will have better customer support, and the lights will be brighter than the baseline version.

I guy is this thread (Paul in MD) recommended this one:

Romisen RC-29 II in Neutral White

Not sure exactly why, but I took his word for it. I kind of get the idea that there are a bunch of choices that are really pretty good so it's just a matter of splitting hairs. At least that's my impression as a noob.

The RC-29 II's adjustable beam width makes it uber versatile. To get this level of versatility AND a neutral white beam on a 1AA keyring light is, for me, the holy grail. I even prefer its single mode, though some CPFers would welcome a multimode option.

My keyring now sports two Shiningbeam Romisen neutral-white (more like warm white) 1xAA lights: an RC-29 II for flood and an RC-G2 II for throw.

I wish I had the cash flow to carry 3 or 4 of each, because my coworkers keep asking where they can get one.

I was carrying one 1xAA plus a 1xAA spare in an aluminum tube from goinggear.com. But now that I have two lights, I've removed the spare.

This weekend, I nearly pulled the trigger to buy a Malkoff M31W drop-in for my 1xAA FiveMega body. But I can't justify spending the $70 when I'm so happy with my Shingingbeam Romisens.
