Im looking for a small new beater light that runs on 2 AAs. The Fenix lights are nice, but anything over $25 is too much for me to be throwing around as a beater.

Im looking at either the 3w mini mag LED or the 3w Rayovac SE.

The mag is probably more durrable, but is it regulated? The 3w SE also has a pocket clip, which i like. What one do you think is the better light?

To answer one of your other questions, yes, the MagLED 2AA is regulated. When battery voltage drops to around 1.1v, *poof* the light just blinks out without a warning.

I think the Ultrafire C3 or the WF-606 Cree would be the better 2 AA light, The C3 will have longer runtime and the WF-606 will have more output and throw.

I've got the Ultrafire C3 with extension tube. Its pretty stoutly built, for a $20 light, and has yet to cause me any problems.

As a plus, you can run it as a single AA when you want something a bit more compact. Pretty much the same brightness with one or two AAs, just longer runtime and better regulation in the two battery configuration.

It'll take alkaline, Ni-MH, lithium primary and 14500(but only one Li-ion or you'll smoke the led). The primary and rechargeable lithium could be handy at low temps.

You had me really, really worried with the topic.....

Anyway, a cheap light won't stand up to a "beater" and I bet a Fenix L1D or L2D (Assuming you insist on AA's, I prefer the P2D with 1x 123) will hold up to it and probably won't show any signs of it for a long time.

HAIII coating and generally solid engineering.

Out of the 2xAA Rayovacs, I'd choose the 1 watt version (which I have)
I'd look to Cree or a Rebel before I bothered with a 2xAA 3 watter.

Watt is the indicator for power.

Possibly a Cree, SSC or Rebel consume also 1 or 3 or whatever Watts, depending on the driving current and voltage.

I guess you are speaking from the Luxeon I or Luxeon III Leds?

Best regards

Wtf is a "beater" light?

One that doubles as an eggbeater?

Something that is useful, but not of the highest quality or price because it will be abused more than most. You don't want to spend a lot of money because you know it will be used and abused, and probably die a unglamorous death. Think stoneware/ceramic dishes vs. fine china or porcelain. They both do the exact same thing, buy why do most of use the cheap stoneware or ceramic and not find china? $$$

Well, I dont abuse any of my tools.

What im saying is Is that if it gets scratched up from rolling around in the trunk and bumping up next to my fire extinguisher and tool kit.

or if a friend barrows it and never brings it back.

The Fenix lights are awesome and iv got several of them on my list, but if either of those happened to one id be upset.

Thought we had invented a new gadget.

Part flashlight, part food mixer.
LOL. Some of the more aggressively-crenellated bezels would be quite handy for beating eggs.

Apart from that, the SF G2 fits the bill pretty well.
