Re: Big Honkin\' Throw VS. Output Chart
Wowzers! Let me bounce a few comments back:
RE: Runtimes: for that I would need a light meter or DMM with light sensor that records it's readings over time, or a digicam that has a timer to take interval (time lapse) photos. Since I don't have any of these, if anyone who does would like to forward runtimes, or more precisely, time to 50% starting output, I'd be glad to add them to the chart. I'd prefer not to drag through tons of data, just the light name and time to 50% would be great.
RE: E1e: I don't have one right now (indicated by the little circle/slash next to it's name in the reviews listing...) I reviewed a borrowed unit. I am waiting for one to come in any day now and it will be added to the chart.
RE: Testing: You send em', I'll test em'! All I ask is that you include a few bucks for return postage and send them in a secure enough box that I can use it to send the light back to you. Sorry if this makes me sound like a cheap b&$t#rd, but the site already costs me enough to maintain... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif E-mail me if you are planning on sending lights so we have a paper trail.
McGiz: There are TONS of variables that could affect output besides just the binning of the Luxeons, such as battery manufacturer, individual flashlight characteristics, etc... but I'll test anything you throw at me!
Ticey: You've got me stumped... All I can do is give the readings of the lights I have, and those are my particular results... Your lights may have different bulbs, batteries, etc that can all affect output... So far, Lux has been a pretty good predictor of throw, so this is a good general guide.
Everyone: Glad you're finding this useful! I have LUX readings for ALL of the lights I have reviewed, but I haven't run them all through the beambox. You're looking at about half of them. Consider also that I no longer have a number of them, so I can only run about another 45 or so through the beambox (mostly headlamps and keychain lights). It'll be a while before that all gets done since I have 4 headlamps in the process of review right now (Black Diamond - keep an eye out for the reviews!), several lights on the way (supposedly - if frikkin' UPS doesn't screw up the shippments...) and the're all going to have to take priority.
So enjoy the data so far and it'll be updated sometime soon, but not right away. Except for possibly changing the order in the chart, like by manufacturer, so it's easier to read... Right now it's sorted by overall output.
