Looking around for a replacement for my bike light I kinda got to thinking about a possible light that could still utilise my existing 12v ni-cad battery that is used to power my current 20w halogen front headlight.
I noted Waynes' bike headlight and then thought .. what if -
somebody were to get an Inretech Super Helios 6D chop it down to say 3.5 inches re - thread the end so cap can be replaced. Remove contact spring ( not neccessary ) and bore out a hole to accept outgoing cable coming from Light which internally is linked to a voltage regulator to feed Helios array. A male to female connecter that is waterproof would need to be linked to the outgoing cable which in turn connects to the rechargeable 12v ni-cad supply. Could such a light be made? I know it wouldn't be cheap but then again neither are HID bike lights and I think it'd be fairly easy to mount such a light using a third party holder of some sort. Is this just plain stupid or feasible - feel free to poke fun at my rookie idea.

Hmm handling the light (not the bike light, I'm talking photons, and not those key chain lights named photons) would be a problem. What kind of reflectors would you use. Optics? Reflectors?

To replace a 20 watt halogen front, you'll need like... what? 3 5 watt W bin LS... and those are going to need some serious cooling. Sounds like you need one of wayne's wizard boards for the power part.. need to step down to the correct voltage and correct current...

Nerd - I was actually thinking that the Helios LED array which is housed in the body of a Maglite 6d remain unchanged ONLY the remaining rear portion of the flashlight be chopped down. Therefore all that is being done is adapting the body that houses the Helios array. No reflector is used with this array only a clear lens is fitted for protection I assume. My concern is I only know that 12v is coming from my ni-cad if I want to know more I need to put a multitester on the supply when fully charged. Then I'd have a better idea on the type of regulation it'd need. But I'm not very technichally minded and have never attempted a mod before so I'd need some advice before I even attempted such a thing.
