I just received the BOG Q5 Drop In Module from BOG

I wanted to see if the BOG Q5 Drop In Module would fit in my Hunt Light FT01 Gen 1, Hunt Light FT01X SE U Bin and Ultrafire WF-501B.

I had to do some modification to the BOG Q5 Drop In to make it work. I had to build up the solder blob in back of the module to make contact with the battery.

A magnet would work but I don't like using them. I had my MR Bulk Chameleon module get blown because of one of those magnets. All it took was the light to fall on it's side on my computer table and that was it, no light. The light wasn't even on.

I had to use a spring to keep the module from moving around or rattling in the Lens Bezel Assembly.

The beam produces is a nice white color with no hint of yellow. The beam is also very smooth.

I could get the module to work in the Hunt Light FT01 1st Gen and Ultrafire WF-501B. I could not get the module to light in the FT01X SE U Bin. Only intermittently when screwing down the Lens Bezel with the switch on. Too bad because the FT01X SE U Bin is Type III Hard Anodize. The other two lights are Type II Anodize.

The reason why the BOG Q5 Drop In Module won't light in the FT01X SE U Bin is because the inside part of the Lens Bezel is shaped diffferent from the FT01 1st Gen and WF-501B.

These are the lux readings I got. I am using a Meterman LM631 Light Meter measured at 1 meter. I waited 2 minutes before taking the readings. I am using AW's Protected 18650 and AW's Protected RCR123's which were fully charged.

Nicely centered emitter. My BOG Q5 (since sold) was also nicely centered, unlike the Dereelight and Wolf-Eyes assemblies.

Ernsanada, thanks for the report. As always great info.

Over the past holidays I read your review on the WE 6AX, and ended up getting one form Mike@PTS and I'm extremely happy with Mike's service and my Sniper, your reviews and pictures are very informative Can't say enough. Thanks.

In this module, did you use cells with the buttons on the end?
....I'm trying to figure out what was causing the slight contact issue.

I was having contact problems with my module.

I did use a magnet to see if the module was OK. It worked so it was a contact issue,

I built up the solder contact point with more solder. Now I use the flat top rechargeable lithiums.

Don't use the magnets! They can shift and poof no more light.

These are the same pics I posted from above.

It's very easy to add the solder. Just put some solder on the tip of the soldering iron and touch the solder on the module. The solder flows very easy and makes a nice contact area for the +ve anode of the battery.

That stinks that the + end is just a solder blob, and it didn't make proper contact. Not something I'd expect from a BOG brand, even the DX modules don't look like that.

I think the BOG/G&P modules were done this way for recoil conditions on weaponlights.
The jury may be out if its a real benefit.

which one is better.. BOG Q5 or Dereelight 1S Q5? I just purchased the dereelight Q5. I just wanna know did I made a bad purchase,
