Hello everyone!

I received my NiteCore D20 yesterday from 4sevens and it isn't working!:mecry:

I sent 4 sevens an e-mail, but I just wanted to post here in case anyone here might be able to help me.

I inserted the AA batteries the correct way and screwed the head on tight. The light turns on when I screw the head on, but when I push the button on the bottom, the light just turns off. I can push and push the bottom button, but the light won't turn back on.

If I unscrew the head and leave it off for a minute then screw it back on, the light immediately comes back on, but when I touch the bottom button, the light turns off again.

Even when I screw the head on and the light turns on, without even touching it, the light dims on it's own and shuts off.

I have tried a few sets of brand new batteries, but no luck.

Anybody have this happen to their NiteCore D20 or know how to fix it?

Thank you for any help!

I have tried just clicking, no luck.

Now when I screw the head on, the light will stay on for a few seconds, then shut off by itself. I'm using brand new batteries too.

Energizer AA 1.2v NiMH rechageable 2500mAH

Dump those. They fooled me just a few weeks ago with a new light. Never held a charge. But if you used new Duracell the batteries should not be the problem.

lol.. I'll take the dump.. haha. my batteries are starting to not charge in the charger.

Lol... I had some of those same Energizers. I used them for a week and threw them away in favour of Eneloops :D

It might not work, but try cleaning and re-lubing the light.

snatiep,

Sorry to hear about your problem. I'm with Marduke and think it has something to do with the ring at the head since that is really the switch. Wipe off any dirt or grime from the ring, rotate it and push it in and out a few times (gently) to make sure that it is working smoothly. If it sticks that might be the problem. While you're at it (and if you have a proper lube such as Nyogel), you may want to remove the clip and tailcap ring, and then unscrew the retaining ring so you can remove the battery tube. Clean the blue lube thoroughly from the outside of the battery tube, inside of the body housing, and o-ring. Then use Nyogel to lube the o-ring and piston and reinsert and reassemble. It sounds like a lot of work but I did this with mine and it runs very smooth and reliably for almost a month now as my EDC.

I know that it is sometimes disappointing to receive a new light out of the box and have issues with it. You can always return it and 4sevens will definitely take care of you. However, if you are mechanically inclined and like to take things apart to see how they work, it is worth going through the exercise above to learn how the light functions. That way, when you're ready to mod it down the road you already know how it comes apart. I've already had mine apart and am waiting for some suitable R bin Crees to swap!

Thank you all very much for your help!

I e-mailed 4sevens and he said just mail it back to him and he would take care of it.

Very strange problem I had with it, yesterday it wasn't working properly at all, and tonight it seems to be working fine. I don't know what the problem is.

Those intermittent problems are the worst. Just like when you take your car to the mechanic and it stops making the noise it was making. Good luck with your replacement.

Another nitecore failure story. too much in my opinion. They are killing their branding and image... I wanted to buy a D10 but not anymore. Very sad cause I like their products :shakehead

Show me a single production brand that has zero issues.

The number of CPF member reported failures is not the same as a products failure rate. The two are COMPLETELY different.

That being said, there are lights that appear to have very few reported failures and unusually good reputation for reliability, even with high sales volume. Twist-cap 6PL and E01 come to mind immediately.

Furthermore, DPM and failure rate data is not published by retailers and manufacturers. So the ONLY metric CPF members have access to when evaluating the reliability of a product is the number of its reported failure incidents on CPF.

I personally have had great luck with their products. I have purchased 9 Nitecore/Edgetac products and only one had an issue with waterproofing while being dunked in water. The light still worked with water condensation in it but the dealer promptly sent a replacement before I even shipped it back. The construction quality is consistent from light to light and I think they are a good value. The dealer in the US is very reputable and will promptly take care of you should there be any issues. I would encourage you to try one because you might like it. And if you don't then you shouldn't have any problems selling it on the forum.
