I just purchased a Brunton L5 Headlamp. The light is a beast for a headlamp and it is very lightweight, with a battery pack for the waist. The overall design is a little flimsy with plastic housing for the money, but it is very light. It also comes with a a red and clear diffuser to place over the spotlight head. This is a great idea considering you lose a lot of spread with the throw this light produces. Overall a great light I would give it a a 4.25 out of 5. Anybody with similar interests or questions let me know your thoughts.

It is the same lamp as Silva L5 - so there is Luxeon K2 star inside... You can replace it for SSC P4 and achieve twice more light at the same current

Really! Is there a particular website or source you recommend for buying the SSC P4, and how or what do I need to install it in my lamp? That would be awesome for a few extra bucks to juice the outout on this thing over 200 lumens! Let me know i am stoked about this possibility, thanks

I also have the L5 and am pleased with its performance, but would not mind one bit if I could get more from it! Has anyone done a Seoul mod on one yet? I'm too afraid to take it apart and mess up a $150 headlamp... Or is there anyone who'd care to mod it for me, for a fee, of course?:anyone:

I second that motion.. I would love to make the L5 a true monster with a Seoul upgrade but I also fear an insuing debacle and ruining my headlamp. I would also be willing to pay for an upgrade if it is possible.

I am not sure that it can be taken apart.. there is a sticker saying that the warranty is void over what I believe is a screw to get into the light, but of course removing it to find out kills the warranty. If anybody knows for sure or has opened one of these lights for mod let us know thanks. Super charging this already bright light would be incredible.

I'll get Silva L1 (there is Luxeon III inside probably) in a few days and post review and mod manual.

If you want to supercharge the light, you have to loose the warranty,
you cant have it both ways.

AFAIK the light uses a K2 led.
