Building a Maglite for patrol

After hours of searching, debating, comparing, and racking my brain for the 'perfect' patrol light, I think I'm just going to pick up a cheap maglite and mod it to work.

Currently thinking about a 4C cell light with Malkoff drop in and a good set of rechargeable batteries. I like the power and runtime of the Malkoff.

- I'd be willing to sacrifice a bit of power for longer run time, are there other mods I should consider?

- Who makes a good set of rechargeable C batteries? I don't mind paying for ones that will perform and last.

Thanks!

A 3D would have similar or maybe more runtime than a 4C, let me do some sums...

Without checking exact capacities, I think C cells have 4000mah, while D cells have 10000mah. Therefore a 2D would have similar capacity to a 4C, while a 3D would have roughly 60% more than the 4C (a 3D is also similar length to a 4C).
2D - 1.2x2x10000 = 24Ah
3D - 1.2x3x10000 = 36Ah
4C - 1.2x4x4000 = 19.2Ah

Just giving you options to decide runtime and size. In the end it comes down to what size you prefer.

Cheers,
Nova

Thanks for the information. I have a 4D maglite and prefer the size and lighter weight of the C versions.

I bought CTA 12000mAh D batteries from Thomas Distributing. Now that I think about it I also have CTA 5500 mAh C batteries. So 3 of these C batteries in a 2D light will give you 19.8Ah and you have a 2D light. This is of course if you are doing your own Mod and want to use a SSC P7 which requires 3.6 volts.
