the best thing is to send surefire the whole light. They might send u a brand new light all together... if ur unlucky just the bezel head.

If this were a Pelican brand torch, definitely an entire replacement of the torch though. Surefire warranty is a bit stingy ...but still good nevertheless..

So , to slightly hijack this thread, what is the best lanyard retention system (without gouing bankrupt)?

Are you saying that if you use the rotating snap ring that goes around the body that it is okay to use the SF lanyard; itis just when attachongthe lanyard via the pocket clip (hole) that it becomes a problem?
No. The clip that attaches to the lanyard ring is the problem. If it gets twisted around, it pops right off.
All you need to do is use a small split ring in place of the clip, and thread the lanyard through that.
I think the ones that I use are size 6.

Thanks, I've actually got two TwoFish Lockblocks on my bars with a 6P and a WolfEyes Sniper. I usually carry another light in my pocket or pack and sometimes in my hand. There are interesting critters to see on the trail I ride and it's easier to shine a hand-carried light than turn my bars to shine those lights.

The split ring idea is a good one. I'll be using that instead of the clip in the future. When I'm not using the lanyard it's just as easy to unscrew the tailcap and remove the lanyard ring.

Update:

Called Surefire first thing this morning and they're sending me, at no cost, a new bezel. The CS guy didn't even hesitate or ask me details about how it was damaged. Just asked me my name and address. Thanks Surefire!

Without photos and more information regarding the TailCap, it appears all that is broken is the bezel. The bezel can be replaced. SureFire are replacing the bezel. There is no need; no need at all to return the whole flashlight, nor replace the whole flashlight. If indeed the TailCap was broken (damaged such that it no longer functions) I'm sure this would have been communicated and SureFire would have sent out a replacement Z41-HA LockOut TailCap.

Because neither the whole light, nor the broken bezel need to be returned, the user continues to have a functioning flashlight capable of being used in a wide variety of conditions rather than no flashlight at all.

I'd say this is excellent customer service - typical of SureFire.

Malkoff certainly makes great drop-ins, I won't be selling mine anytime soon.

I'm sure Surefire will just send you a new bezel.

The tailcap is fine - just a couple of scratches and doesn't need to be replaced. I'm very happy just getting a new bezel shipped to me at no cost. I wouldn't want to hassle with packaging and returning the whole light at my expense when there's no need to do so. And I can still use it if I want to - the beam with the cracked lens just looks like a MagLite beam. :nana:

Threads like this illustrate why it's worth buying SureFire lights.
That's true. They make these lights for hard use, and they don't quibble when you use them that way. In this case :twothumbs for Surefire support.

Are there any better solutions than using a split ring, like some small quick disconcert clip but that solves this problem? I was thinking about a cylindrical type M-F quick disconnect but don't know what they're called.

Do they even ask anything?? Like where you bought it, when, etc?? Sounds like their warranty dept is virtually no questions asked. lol

I have a 6P with a M60, Dropped it about 6ft on concrete, It done the same thing. Called SF they sent a new bezel right out. No Questions like where? when? how?

I am waiting for the OP to let us know what the county is going to charge him for filling the pothole his C2 made in the road surface.

I split pretty quick after if happened. I'm hoping they don't know it was my fault...

Surefire didn't ask my anything but my name, address and phone number. I wonder if it shipped today. I'd love my C2 to be back in business by the weekend.

Am I the only one who finds this a bit troubling?

I mean if you have a company known for making tough-as-nails lights, and you manage to break a part on one of those lights; wouldn't you expect the C.S. rep to at least ask you how you managed to break it?

Perhaps once every couple of months a Surefire exec. stops by the C.S. department to check the records, see which parts are most often being sent out under warranty, checking out the reasons given by most Surefire customers as to why a particular part broke, reporting the findings to a higher exec. if indeed a particular part keeps breaking under a common situation that could be corrected.... Anyone see where I'm going with this??

If the C.S. rep doesn't even bother to ask what happened, that's not really good customer service. More like, something breaks and they just replace the part. There might be a Q.C. problem, there might not be. But how's anyone going to figure that out if they don't ask any questions? :sigh:

The why is not that important once you have sufficient evidence to be able answer the question yourself.

Since this type of breakage is about as old as putting a Pyrex window into the bezel in the first place, my impression is that SureFire have excepted that sometimes users will encounter situations that break the window. Most likely a drop or bang etc.
Engineering a solution to reduce the incidence of breakage can be done. I bet has been explored years ago. The results would be a compromise in weight, size, output and materials costs etc that is not worth it given the frequency of reported window breakage.

I'm certain that when SureFire encounter things they weren't expecting they like to take a close look.

Could it be that the Malkoff drop-in causes this? It is heavier than a SF lamp or the P60L and it doesn't have a spring to soften the impact as it is trapped between the window and the metal of the light.

The additional mass is probably part of it, but not a really big part. The module is trapped between a fairly robust aluminum lip inside the bezel, not pressed directly against the window. I think it's thick enough that it won't deform and put stress on the window glass. Edit: looking really closely with a photon it looks like there's a pretty robust o-ring seal between the bezel lip and the window, so even if the lip deformed it shouldn't have damaged anything. I think it's just a case of falling off a moving bicycle at 10+ miles per hour. The C2 bezel is really thin up front where the retaining ring screws in, I've dented mine with a 2 foot drop onto floor tile. The M2 bezel probably wouldn't have suffered any window breakage.

That's a very good point, I've found the increase in mass noticable. In an impact situation, it would be like having a little anvil in there.:(

IMHO FWIW
