Howdy,
It looks like a great little camera, but I don't see anyway to override the auto-exposure system.
You might try some tests using both the "Nightime" and "Fireworks" modes. Also you could try taking your before and after photos by having another light (the same one) in each photo...... giving a known quantity to compare to.
Also, try taking your flashlight photos in a partially lit room, with the same lighting each time. The idea is that your camera will make it's exposure based on the general lighting of the room (have it the same each time), and we will then be able to see the differences you made with your mod.
Actually, that gives me an idea. Most auto-exposure cameras make their exposure calculations when the button is depressed half way, giving you a way to "lock" the exposure.
So...... make sure your room is partially lit the same for each photo (low light). Before the mod set up your camera in the house and have the room lights on (low). Now, with your flashlight OFF, press the shutter button half way down and keep it like that, which will lock the exposure, then turn on your flashlight and take the photo.
Now, do the mod. Then set your camera up in the same position and have the room lights set the same way. Depress the shutter button half way again, locking the exposure to the same way it was before, and then turn on your newly modded light and take the photo.
Voila....... a somewhat exposure locked comparison!
