Going camping with the wife and kids and have assembled the lights that I think I need. Too much / too little? Please review and comment.

1 x EagleTac P100A2
3 x StreamLight Nano
2 x MagMinis for the kids
1 x Petzl Tikka Plus
1 x ZebraLight H501

Maybe 1 x 4D Maglite to beat intruders. Too heavy to actually use as light source.

sounds about right. definitely not the 4d.
if you had to trim down more you can just bring the headlamps.

headlamps, backups, med thrower. should cover every need.

If you want to add a lantern to the mix. Look into the rayovac sportsman extreme. I think it's a good value...

Some camping trips I use nothing but my e01 on a neck lanyard.. most of the time lately I use my D10...

If it was me i would take another mid thrower (ie another EagleTac P100A2 type light).

If I was going to take that and needed to cut down on some lights I would cut down on the streamlights/mag minis.

If I had to carry all my gear I would definitely leave the 4D at home, but if it was a stationary camp with a vehicle I would bring it along.

If I was going at about my lightest load (ie, Hiking over substantial distance) I would take all the headlights (1 for each person of course) and the Eagle Tac (unless of course where talking about my torch collection, then I would take my TK20/10/11 (one of them)) and leave everything else at home.

But yes, I think your talking about stationary camping, in which case I think you have a very good load out, and would bring the 4D as well, if not to just leave in the car if its needed.

Don't forget a huge spotlight to beam all the other campers with! :D Actually you should get a MC-E or P7 light or a TK40, to show off.

The TK40 is my next purchase. I am trying to keep everything AA as most of my other gear is also AA. I usually just have my Zebralight and EagleTac near me at all times.

I'll chime in for the way-too-much camp. I suspect that your kids aren't going to be spending much time outside at night time. They'll be in their tents when it's dark or getting up to pee. You don't need much flashlight for that task.

Headlamps for everyone is good if u guys decide to have a little hike at night too. With a nice little thrower thrown in for the leader.

Main problem with headlamps in summer camping is they attract flying insects to your face. :ohgeez: They are better for cool seasons or caving.

Maybe your kids might prefer headlamps...?.. Harder to drop and lose.

Unless it is a princess crown my daughter won't keep anything on her head.

The kids will be using the magminis

The nanos are attached to various things (tent, bathroom bag, etc).

Mom and dad will have headlights for setting up, cooking, cleaning, etc. The Zabralight makes a good tent lights as well.

EagleTac for throw.

No, get a shotgun with a bayonet to beat on attackers with.

P.S. don't forget a weaponlight for it. :D :poke:

The TK40 is my next purchase.

Good choice, I cant wait till take my TK40 camping, runs on low for 160 hours :) and low is bright as the headlight I used to survive with.

I try and keep everything to go camping AA to, because I have 2 solar 4xAA chargers, and the GPS runs on AA. Having the TK40 on AA's is just the ants pants I think, even though it has copped much criticism for it.

Next camping trip the TK40 is definitely coming along...

*Edit*
Oh, and the other advantage of the TK40 is it has modes higher than 8 lumins... like say... 630 of them!! ahhaaa ahhha ahhha <- = evil laugh ;)

Thanks to all. Will let you know how it goes after next weeks camping trip.

I am away camping at the weekend for a fortnight, and will be carrying:
Petzl Tikka XP
Fenix L1T
Fenix e01
AA MagLED

The headlight is really the most useful for camping - a simple floody beam with enough light to work by is far more useful than some high output monster, and being a headlight it means my hands are free to do whatever task is needed.
The L1T comes as a handtorch and is kept on my belt - used alongside the headtorch in the dark where I want more output and a better beam for specific tasks
The other two are both backups, the e01 as a wee pocket torch for odd jobs and finding stuff in my tent, and the Mag as a backup for all of the above (it just gets stuffed in with my kit in case)
