Not sure if it's reliable or how much spill i might be losing but following a remark made by someone i unscrewed the pill slightly to sit it lower in the reflector and it creates a tighter hot spot(less fuzz) and seems to throw further. Not sure it is a useful gain yet but it works. Someone who knows better can probably illuminate some flaw in this technique.

If you just screw a Dereelight pill into a reflector it is not going to have perfect focus, or at least it may focus differently from reflector to reflector, pill to pill, etc. That is the beauty of the Dereelight pills as you can fine tune the focus to either improve the quality of the beam, or get more throw. For most people if they just screw their pill in all the way it will work fine for them, but if you fiddle with it you may get better results if you're picky like many of us here. :)

I fine tuned my one Dreeelight CL1H with a 3SD R2 WH and smooth reflector to get around 10,000LUX which makes for a very good throwing light in the CL1H size class.

Yes i am getting very picky. I could not have known how addictive flashlights would be. I keep day dreaming about the perfect heat exchanger for an EDC. Some kind of nanotubes and gas liberation and capture system that would not only dissipate but actually cool the LED to it's optimum working temp and i used to have very different day dreams.

Well I finetuned my to the point that I get an almost square hotspot with a bit more intense circle in it....

But it requires too much unscrewing so I use a spacer to take up the slack;

Isn't that the truth. I tweaked and tweaked and got one pill just about perfect, then screwed in another pill and it's not happy where it is. It has to be the Cree emitters.
