Using two rechargeable R123A in this set up will not flash the bulb but will overdrive LEDs.

My A2 works with 2 AW's IMRs with no problem at all. The Strion bulb in it has 3+ hours of runtime now. Surefire stock LEDs will not like this setup, but you may try to get different LEDs from here: https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/199366

I am not sure if it's healthy for those cells to be used in A2, because the cut-off voltage of A2 is set to turn off the bulb when 25% power in normal CR123 is left, which probably makes LiONs really discharged (quoting from AW's sales thread):

LiIon Battery Charge Status

4.2V – 100%
4.1V – 87%
4.0V – 75%
3.9V – 55%
3.8V – 30%
3.5V – 0%

Yes you can use 2 Li-Cobalt (removed label) or 2 IMR

It's been done with many members including myself.

Does this lamp draw more tailcap current than the stock SF lamp?

Measuring tail current is more tricky because of regulation but Strion bulb takes higher current than stock bulb under same regulated voltage.
