Maybe, maybe not. It depends on whether the resulting opening would be big enough for the Osram lamps. Besides, I couldn't bring myself to deface one of these beauties!

I am going to step out on a limb here, but since there are being produced from scratch, couldn't FM make one with a small hole (WA type bulbs) and one with a large hole (Osram, Axial, Pelican type bulbs). If they were both made camless, then the KIU socket would work with the small hole as well as the large hole.

Like I said, I am out on a thin limb. I have never manufactured anything so I really am speaking out of turn since I don't know everything that maybe involved for the design change and whether or not enough people warrant such a change.

Or FM could say he will do it his way and those that don't like it...tough..don't buy it!! :) :)

The KIU socket is a big piece for a couple so far and I think the solution there is to be camless. But who knows.

FM? Too early for feedback/thoughts?

Curious if we can get one that will fit around 10W WA bulb?

The Kiu bulb holder works with cammed reflectors. I just cracked one open to check.

Bulb opening is 10mm and this will be usable with all WA and 35W Philips bulbs.

WA1111 is 20w and WA1185 is 30w. So I would say the anser to your question is YES.

I meant that in order to keep the hole in the 3.5" reflector small for maximum benefit, those who wish to use the KIU socket will need the reflector to be camless. If not, the hole will need to be widened in the reflector for it to stay cammed.

Maybe a "flare" out on the cammed portion would work and could be the best of both worlds. You still could have the small hole capability and could also use the KIU capability etc.

Or just keep the hole small and make the reflector camless.

Can someone tell me the benefit of the cammed vs. camless?

DF, the 10mm opening hole will not fit the Solarc.

FM, if the cam hood is opened to 19mm and the bottom flat under the parabola is less tha 2mm like your MC reflector, then the Kiu holder will work. Depending on the focal point of the parabola of course. But only for WA type lamp or T2 1/4, or smaller.

Timson,
No plan for more 3" head at this time.
---
Lurveleven,
About 450 gr.
This is same parabola of 3" with same focal point but extended from front to diameter of 3.5"
Somebody calculate surface increase please.
Extra lenses will be available before shipment but I don't take payment for extra lens now..
It is possible to make in 2 sizes of 10mm and 15mm opening.
I can not make several opening sizes including camless.
---
vontech,
I don't have KIU's bi pin adapters and don't know answer.
---
wallyrulz,
More bored out HA III 2D and 3D body will be available soon.
---
cue003,
This new 3.5" head will dissapate heat much better than the FM3V and FM3H
HA will be darker grey, almost like M6
FM3.5" is about a pound. FM3" is 12.5 oz.
How many of you got replacement after mess up 3" reflector?
Finaly you will end up with 2 order if not 3
---
paulr,
If cammed FM3 doesn't fit on USL, then 3.5" will not.
---
CromagNet.
I may offer some more chrome M*gs but not chrome service.
---
DFiorentino,
10W Solarc will fit in 15mm opening.
---
Kevin Tan,
It is 19 mm and less than 2mm
---
gregw,
Sorry, no camless.

Re: FM 3.5" M*g 'C' & 'D' head by Fivemega

FM,

Thank you for answering the questions. I noticed that you mentioned you did not have a KIU adapter. I have 2 complete KIU switches assembled and ready to go (never been installed) if you would like to "borrow" them for your testing.

I have one in size D and one in size C. The High temp socket area and the placement of the bulb (height) appears to be the same on both the D and the C so either one will work for your testing. You could borrow one or both, up to you.

I just checked out the KIU adapters and how the fit in the stock mag reflector.... I just noticed that the stock mag reflector actually has a lip in it before the cammed portion. So in reality FM reflector can still have the small opening of say 10mm but the cammed portion would then be wider underneath it just like a stock mag reflector. Then the Kiu would fit, FM high temp would fit and we all go home happy.

Did a little further testing.... The mag reflector cammed portion fits over the black section at the top of the STOCK switch assembly. That black part of the switch is actually thicker than the size of the KIU adapter/configuration. Maybe with 1-2mm or so to spare. So if FM reflector/head is designed to work with the stock switch shaft and will essentially fit over/around the stock switch shaft, then there should be absolutely no problems with the KIU switch setup since it is acutally narrower than the stock shaft.

ANYWAYS.......

Just shoot me a PM (with mailing address etc) and let me know and I will get it in the mail to you ASAP.

The HA "DARK GREYish" for this head, will that be a close match or same color family as the 2.5D HA3 lights you are currently doing and/or the future 2D and 3D HA3 versions you mentioned you will also offer later on?

So if I plan on using this with a LED I'll have to de-cam it myself? Also the cam hole is standard Mag sized? Will the gray HA will be similar to the 1.5 D light I've got coming?

TIA,

at a $190 it's really not worth it to put on a $15 dollar mag body! lol
