I just received the Coleman CREE 3AA Micropacker Lantern from The Gear Revival. After the review is finished the light goes back to the The Gear Revival.

You can purchase the Coleman CREE 3AA Micropacker Lantern at The Gear Revival.

Use code CPF10 at checkout for 10% off your order, including anything else from the site.
Order over $100 worth of items and get free UPS Ground shipping in the US (no code needed, despite what the homepage says).
Get a free Nalgene bottle on orders over $85 (no code needed, we just throw them in orders until we run out).

There is a thread on the Coleman Lights at CPFMP

Costs $23.99 before discount.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Uses Cree XRE.

4 position switch, high, low, emergency strobe and off.

Has a rear sliding reflector to project the light forward.

8 hours on high. 14 hours on low. The high low settings seem close in brightness. I know some might want a lower low but I don't mind.

Fit and finish, I give the grade A.

Thanks for the review! I was looking at these in an ad and may pick one up for camping.

Same emitter and

The 3aa runs 8 hrs on high 14 hrs on low but ..
The 4aa runs 5 hrs on high 12 hrs on low.

I guess nothing is as simple as it appears.

This one is rated at 80 lumens while the other is rated at 95 lumens. Doesn't quite make up for the difference, but should explain a little bit.

Nice review. I don't like the dispersion pattern so much of the Cree though, along with the expected lower runtime.. I have one of the 10 dollar Micropackers with the two 5mm chopped dome LED's facing towards each other in a faceted, transparent tube, driven by only a resistor at 100 mA (50 per LED, yes, I opened it up and looked at everything). It's not bad, and the runtime is real long, plus I like the very smooth dispersion pattern. Of course it's nowhere near as bright as the Cree version. The 4AA Packaway Cree may be my next lantern purchase, though..
