looks to me like dropins are the future.

own a host (6P i think is the one?), with a few adaptors and extensions to allow for different cells types/sizes and voltages,

then as new LEDS are released into the market, just buy the dropin with reflector/beam pattern and modes you want.

with AA,C, D 123 and 18650 bodies that fit the head/s you already own,

and a multitude of dropins to choose from,

is there any other way to go?

is there any reason to buy a complete light any more?

Heatsinking, size.

edc is where its at.

no-one edcs a 4D m*g.

sure 15k lumens for 8 minutes is .....interesting:thinking:

but did you notice the words 'common sense' are in the title of this thread :)

Size goes both directions. People also EDC lights which are SMALLER than a P60 size host, which is quite large for the average person's EDC who doesn't want belt carry.

Show me a 1xAAA P60 light...

single 123 P60 could be very small.

Have you tried to pocket carry a Surefire 6P, Solarforce L2, Spiderfire X-03 or other common P60/D26 drop-in capable lights?

They are great lights and the drop-in options are endless, but unless you wear "the pants of 20 men" or prefer holster carry, they aren't really great for EDC.

EDIT: I agree with your reasoning about buying a new drop-in as LED tech advances. That's why I bought some P60 hosts in hope of not buying so many lights.
It wasn't until I actually got them in my hands that I realized they were too large for EDC.

i find a single 18650 light easy to carry in a front pocket.

but i dont wear my pants like a rock star

im sure we all carry a phone and wallet and keys.

if you cant find a little extra room for a light somewhere your not trying.

I would however prefer not to have to hold a trapper keeper in front of me to avoid the embarrassing assumptions of others as I walk. :hahaha:

I carry a multi-tool, LF2XT, and Quark123-2 in holsters on a belt along with my cell phone. I work in a corporate environment that requires my shirt to be tucked in and I can't wear cargo shorts. For some reason the moment I put a P60 host on my belt I get all sorts of questions. But no one ever questions the other three hanging next to each other. (I swapped the Quark for a 6P one day.) It's like there is a threshhold for how much can hang from your belt before it becomes obvious.

My Quark AA is invisible on my belt next to my Blackberry holster.

Could I do the same with a P60 host?

ok, someone has to finaly spill the truth here...
The very idea of wearing holsters on my belt makes me embaressed. I know that most of us (including me) are married and all but common guys...holsters are geeky and unsexy.
There it is...Im surely gonna get flamed now but when You reach deep down to Your souls Im sure You will know Im right :p
I edc a Fenix LD01 with a Lion rechargable AAA. Ive had it for a year and this light is very bright has 3 modes, very small size and is undetectable to geek haters ;)

I carry my MD2 on my belt in a nylon holster - sits nicely beside my Palm Trio. I am personally, the sort of person that couldn't care less what other people think. If other people don't like the look of my belt carried, small 12cm long light in a plain black holster, then too bad!!!:nana:

James....:D

Nobody cares what's on your belt as long as you only pull it out when it's appropriate to the situation. As long as the things on your belt are "tools" as opposed to "toys", nobody will think less of you.

On the rare occasion that someone asks why I have something on my belt (phone, flashlight, leatherman, whatever), I simply say that it's more convenient than keeping it in my pocket.

On the rarer occasion that someone then asks why I have it with me at all, I say that I find it too useful to be without.

It never goes further than that and it usually never comes up again.

In regards to holsters being "unsexy", if your significant other (wife, girlfriend, whatever) has an issue with you keeping something on your belt, then look for something more concealable. If they don't care about it, then why should you? In all seriousness, you're probably not going to be wearing your belt when "sexiness" matters anyways...

If you don't have a significant other, advertise your true inclinations so that you don't waste your time wooing someone who will inevitably leave you when they get to know you better.
