Not a big review but for those who are thinking of buying either a Peak AAA 3 led light or getting LED_ASAP to mod your AAA light.
I got a TX1J luxeon using his "new drilling technique" and "max brightness".

For the first 2 shots, I had all 3 lights in it.
Each light is placed 16cm away from the cabinet.
From LEFT to RIGHT are the Peak, Arc, LEDASAP Arc.

This first pic is of all 3 lights with the flash on.

This second pic is now w/o flash.
I just took a tape measure and checked the diameter of the beams. I came up with:
PEAK 15 cm, Arc 26 cm, LED ASAP 45cm

Next up I took a CD jewel case and took a shot
of it lit up by the light from a distance of 30cm.

As you can see, if you want a nice flood, LED_ASAP is the guy you want to speak to. If you are looking for a nice tight beam then it doesn't hurt to go with the Peak. The only suggestion I have is to get a Peak with a "prototype" body. That way you get an Arc AAA body instead of the extra long Peak body which I can't stand. I personally prefer my mod over the Peak. I like having a nice big flood.

These pics were taken with a Canon S230 in manual mode. AiAF and the AF beam were left on. ISO 100. I left white balance on auto.

Yeah - looks like a perfect replacement for my aging Arc AAA.

Anyone remember how much the Prototype bodies cost? The Peak page shows the body as "returning soon" and a 3 LED, high power, brass head at ~ $30..

interessing....
Witch kind of AAA battry do yo use?
have you got any data about run time?

Re: comparison: AAAs. Arc, Peak 3 LED, LEDASAP Ar

Are there 2 lights on in the ASAP pic?

That ASAP mod is looking good for a red LED black-bodied Arc AAA I have thats almost deceased. Nice pics. Thx.

best regards

no runtimes..i just grabbed two fresh batts for the screenshots. I'm too lazy to pay attention to it while it's doing it's discharge. 800 mAh nexcells I think it was

Powernoodle..it seems I had just moved the arc aside when i took the pic of the ledasap light. but the light was NOT shining against that bit of wall so it shouldn't affect the beamshot.

There is a review by kingsmono further down and he might have had runtime mentioned.
The draw is aboutg 700mAh so running an 800mAh nimh battery should give about an hour.

Yem. the protobody was going for $5 iirc
forgot to mention that mod cost $80.

I have a Arc AAA modified by LED_ASAP for maximum brightness off of rechargables. I measured 750mA off the battery. I used to EDC various Photons.

Any way, I love my Arc AAA mod. It is bright. It makes the Photon look like the batteries are dead. The Lux Arc AAA is very useful. It is great for work up to about ten feet, and will light up things up to forty feet away. It is much better then the Key-KLux N cell I had. Of course that was only 200mA so that figures.

I highly recomend it. I love it. I have carried it everyday for two months without problem. LED_ASAP does quality work.

Expensive, but for me it was well worth it.

Hey... your post inspired me enough to seek out a LED_ASAP modded ARC.

I was wondering, have you had a chance to do a runtime test yet? I'm sure I'll get either a 600 or 750 mA mod done without the acrylic ball sometime next year.

That second picture above is VERY convincing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif

Re: comparison: AAAs. Arc, Peak 3 LED, LEDASAP Ar

Sorry, guess it wasn't clear above. I have no plans to do any runtimes.
Unfortunately, I don't really care much about run times. I never need to run the LA Arc for more than a few minutes at a time. When it dies, I change batts, simple. I use some 850mAh rechargables.

Since Arcs are no longer available, I'm looking into getting some TWOHs which I will then pass onto LED_ASAP with some Peak proto heads and bodies.

You have just a bare led in that modded light? Can you post a pic of it? I haven't been too crazy about the acrylic ball notion.

What batteries are you using in it, what runtime do you get, do you know the LED current, and how hot does the light get?

Re: comparison: AAAs. Arc, Peak 3 LED, LEDASAP Ar

I have an LEDASAP Arc AAA running of a li-ion driving a T bin lux III in regulation at around 400ma. This will smoke all Arc AAA comers, and runs for a good 30 mins before recharge. It is my EDC.
