A somewhat similar problem occured to a friend's computer that I looked at. He was unable to view any secured web page. Didn't matter which browser was used, we tried both IE and Opera. Took out his drive, hooked it up to mine as a slave and a few trojans were found. Funny thing is, they all were in the windowsMe(the OS) restore file which I believe was a compressed cab file but Norton could not get rid of them. At that point I just reformatted. I suspect the registry had been hacked and I wasn't sure where or what to look for. I suspect this problem is somewhere along the same lines or at least in the same ballpark as what Empath was talking about.

At this point I'm considering turning the unit over to a shop who may have the diagnostic software and such to get this taken care of. Yesterday morning I tried the site again and it worked beautifully. Could display the main page, select Around the Shop, read, post, whatever. That lasted for about three hours or so, then quit. Also, there was another couple site that would not display previously that I was able to look thru early yesterday. Because they were not from favorites and had never been displayed, I had not been certain if the site had a glitch or did I. I ran a free McAfee scan that showed an infected file named C:\\mssys.com with a virus name of Downloader.OS or DS I forget which.
The most popular beer here is without a doubt LaBatts, but a beer out of Pa called Yingling is coming on strong. There is also a line of brew made in Utica named Saranac that plays to the Adirondack theme. Several varieties of it, with their Pale Ale being excellent, provided one likes traditional ale and their lager and pilsner is quite good too!

This would be a good time to ensure that you have backed up any irreplaceable data that you want to keep.

Now you know why it's important to have a good anti-virus running, and to keep it up to date.

It seems your virus exploited a security hole in Internet Explorer. Surprise! So now you also know why it's a good idea to use another web browser.

I still use I.E., but one of these days I'll try Mozilla.

Hint, Hint: Anytime you surf adult websites go to Tools/Internet options/security/custom level then check 'disable' for active scripting. That stops the bad stuff they can do to your computer. In fact, I run my pc that way all the time and add specific sites to 'trusted sites' as needed to make specific things work, such as ordering merchandise. This also stops pop-ups and falling into what i've seen called a 'porn funnel' where dozens of pages pop up. Sorry but can't help with the problem you're having now though.
