Considering Ra Clicky or Novatac 120P

Ok, I'm looking to get a single cell light for an EDC. The smallest light I own is the Olight T20. I am torn between the Novatac 120P and the Ra Clicky. They both seem like amazing lights, and you guys have said many good things about both lights.

The main difference seems to be that the Ra is bigger, but 20lm brighter. I would be carrying it in my front pocket. From your experience, do you think that difference in size is substantial? Does either light have more problems (if any) than the other? The Ra seems almost indestructable, is the Novatac as durable? One thing I like about the Novatac is that you can get a tube for bigger batteries. Is there anything else that would lean me towards buying one light or the other?

Novatac makes a great light but it was Henry's previous design; the Ra is his current design and does a better job; especially in the efficiency of the driver. Novatac's get 30 minutes at 120 lumens; you can get a Clicky that will do an hour or better.

I would even buy the lower end Clicky's over the Novatac... the flashlight's construction is super solid and is the main reason to get it.

Check out all of the engineering that was done to the Ra on www.ralights.com and see for yourself.

Good luck.

I pocket carry my lights and I find both of these lights too big to carry comfortably in my front pocket. I do carry them in the side pockets of my cargo pants. They are both good lights. I personally would go for the Ra even though it is bigger. The extra length makes it fit better in my hand.

Is the Ra's UI the same as the Novatac's? Im seriously contemplating the Ra Tactical EDC. Also does it have a pocket clip or is there one available?

The NovaTac is maybe not quite as robust as the Ra Clickly (although the Ra switch, needs more history to be classified). The NovaTac however is EXTREMELY robust, if you want the toughest light that would likely be the Ra Twisty. The NovaTac seems to have less problems tail-standing with the flat tail cap.

Since your thinking about larger battery tubes, size is likely not an issue for you. The Clicky may have an addtional tube(s) as well at some point, like the Twisty.

If I was buying new today, and paying retail, it would be a tough decision. I'd probably lean towards the Clicky, just because it was new, but knowing how great the NovaTac is I find the decision is not so easy.

As OddJob said, I would find either tough to front pocket carry, but others do it.

Basically the same, slight differences in special features. Switching levels and programming is the same. If you're asking about the clip you must not have done much reading. (you'll understand later) Yes it has a clip. Check the information on the other threads RaLights or Dealer Websites.

I owned a Novatac 85P and a 120P, both were great lights. With that being said, I no longer own any Novatac and have three Ra Clicky's and a Twisty :grin2: IMO, the Clicky is vastly superior to the Novatac and is why I sold mine once my first Clicky arrived. The construction is much more robust and the efficeincly is FAR superior. And now that the entry Clicky's are priced around ~$100, I feel it's a no brainer decision.

Ra all the way

DOH!

  • Pocket clip, deep carry bezel up, MOLLE compatible, retaining.
I must be tired? I remember seeing pictures of the RA's bezel up now that I think about it :sigh: :tired: I think I will eventually get myself a Clicky and follow with a Twisty.

Something to keep in mind. Quite a few people here are fan of Henry the designer of both NT and RA, and will gravitate toward whichever company he is in. Since Henry quit NT and started RA many of these people will automatically choose RA over NT.
