So I just kinda noticed the other day when I was checking some chicken eggs for chicks that a 180 lumen cree LED is not very good for shining through things. I grabed my SF G2 with a stock incan bulb and it shone through it very well. Any one else notice this? Is it due to the spectrum of light that the LED produces?

yea... i think that the lower frequency of yellow light (as opposed to the higher frequency of bluish white light) contributes to the relative effectiveness of incan lights to shine through things. i've heard that, for this same reason, police officers find that incan lights are better for shining through car windows to see what's inside, and LED light beams just reflect right back.

nice name, btw =)

Then why did the LAPD choose a cool tint for shining through tinted windows with their new light?

Probably due to perceived brightness over incans and the fact that LEDs get better battery life and durability.

The warmer, broader spectrum of the incan beam seems to pass through window tinting better than cooler, narrower spectrum LED light source. My G2 on P60 does a lot better job than my U2 and P3D. The LED light seems to scatter more than the incan.
