Well, there WAS a thread here somewhere where I had gathered participation for glass optics for the Aixiz modules - I cannot seem to locate it at present. Aixiz STILL does not have enough of them in stock - I finally got a reply from them last night regarding that. I also ordered a bunch of aperature stickers at the same time, so everyone who ordered the glass lenses will get some stickers as well ! That is - WHEN they finally get in stock ! I am sorry I had not posted this info earlier - but I will keep everyone updated. At present, there is no way I can take any additional orders, so hang tight - I will give you all the contact info, etc when my order is finally filled. Thanks all for being so patient, and waiting with me !

Greg

wow you read my mind. Was going to ask if you had recieved our modules yet. It's good to know what's going on, although I can't believe it's taking them this long to get more in stock! Ah-well lasers is a hobby of patience. NOT! i am patient hehehe.

No problem, Greg! IIRC, the Aixiz modules are what hung up the Dr's GB for an extra month or two. They'll eventually come in.

Definitely looking forward to seeing if the glass does noticeably better than plastic.

Okay - FINALLY got word (I had to call again) they shipped today ! I will send them out as soon as they arrive - I have everyone's boxes sitting here, waiting !:twothumbs

Okay folks, I have been looking through the thread where I did the mini-group buy, and only found 5 folks that actually paid (I checked pay-pal, too) for the modules. I am getting ready to send them out, and here is the list I have of those that paid - if you think you paid, and you do NOT see your name on the list, forward the pay-pal confirmation page to my email please. I will be shipping on Monday, and I will only be shipping out to those listed here, unless I have proof to the contrary. Without further ado, here are the names :

RobK - 2 modules
Kenom - 2 modules
Conceptcar - 2 modules
Bimmerboy - 2 modules
Yuip - 2 modules

PLEASE let me know if you sent me a payment - I have a spreadsheet I created, and I show a few people as never having sent funds - of course I am human, and could have made a mistake, so please let me know ASAP so I can get your modules sent out to you. To answer one question - no, I will not be selling any more of these since my order from them was shorted, I have enough to satisfy the group buy, and a few for me, and that is it.

As this seems finished we won't move the thread, but please use the proper gb forum for future groupbuys.
Thanx
bernhard

I guess the best way to tell that it's actually glass is to try and scratch it? I got my modules yesterday and have no clue how to tell the difference between the plastic and the glass ones. It just seems odd, but it could just be me and my ignorance. The reflection and refraction seem to be very similar...

Will try and report back on what I get out of these things as soon as I get a diode into one of them. I got so used to the brass modules I didn't even use the plastic ones yet!

I came up with an idea on how to test them as I was typing the reply above, and I did. They are glass. :D

In case you were wondering how... I simply tested the far more superior thermal conductivity of Silicon Dioxide. ;)

The Aixiz plastic lens assemblies have a plastic lens holder measuring 0.256" in length and have an input apperture of 0.073" (on the LD side) which needs to be enlarged.
The Glass assembly measures 0.390" in length and the assembly is of darkened brass.
This from my recent shippment from Aixiz.

Well... they're not brass, that's for sure. But they do act like they are made of glass. I guess I could try and scratch one of them to see the outcome. Perhaps I'll do that after a call tomorrow to AixiZ to make sure I got what I had originally ordered.

Thanx a bunch Mike;
DDL

Got 'em today, and looking forward to using my first glass lenses!

Thanks, Senkat!

Heh?

Mike is correct. The glass units are as per his description. Another difference is that these are AR coated, whereas the plastic ones are not. Take a look at the front surface of the lens. It should have a blue tinted appearance. My plastic lenses from Aixiz just look clear.

Hey Greg,

Got mine today as well. I'll have to wait till Monday because I have some resistors and capacitors coming for my diodes, but I took a look at 'em anyway. They are awesome! Exactly what I wanted. Nice AR coated glass lens, metal lens holder, spring, wide input window; just awesome!

What really annoys me is that I emailed Aixiz during dr_lava's group buy to ask about some glass lensed diode holders/collimators, and they never returned my email!

Anyways, thanks again man!

add me to the list of super happy folks who got theirs today! these things look greattttttttttttttttttt and thanks for the warning sticker senkat!!!!!!! :)

Glad everyone got their stuff - sorry it took so long, it was a constant battle with them, to get them to ship for some reason ! I had to call them, and ask for Dr Miracle (the owner) cell number so I could explain what an issue this was - as I had heard of others receiving their orders, and not a peep out of them regarding my order. Less than three minutes later (this is after close to thirty emails back and forth !) my cell rang, and it was Xia, and she stated they were packing everything up at that moments, and wanted to confirm the quantities, etc - I did not get over half what I ordered, but it finally came, so I guess that is the good part of the story ! I will be mucking about with them this weekend, and hopefully haveing LOTS of fun with them ! I like the way that the two lenses are interchangeable, for easy comparison !

One issue with these modules. I'm finding the threading to be quite troublesome. On one module, the lens holder does not want to screw in far enough, and the end cap refuses to screw down more than a turn or two. On the other one, the end cap refuses to screw on straight, like it's cross-threaded or something. Haven;t applied any real force until I get a better handle on why this is happening.

Anyone else having the same problems?

Hmmmm - they came completely unassembled, and I put them together - I htought I kept all the difficult ones for myself, evidently not, huh ? Darned sorry about that, Bimmer - if it proves to be too much of an issue, send them back to me, and I will replace them with others. I did find that the lass lenses are much longer than the plastic ones, and that could be an issue once they are completely assembled, as far as focal length goes...everyone keep me up to date on that issue, please ? Perhaps the module itself is not deep enough to allow for super up close burning then ?:shakehead

Let's work on getting this stuff figured out ! To kill this thread, I will start a new one specifically for the glass optics !
