Here is a photo of my first attempt at designing/machining a flashlight, the construction of which was featured on the cover of Digital Machinist magazine, Summer 2008 issue.
It uses two CR123A cells and a Surefire P60/P60L. While not the fanciest of flashlights, it is a good, intermediate machining project for someone with a lathe and mill. Anyone interested in this article should be able to obtain a back issue:
