Custom 2x-CR123A 6061-T6 Flashlight

Here is a photo of my first attempt at designing/machining a flashlight, the construction of which was featured on the cover of Digital Machinist magazine, Summer 2008 issue.

It uses two CR123A cells and a Surefire P60/P60L. While not the fanciest of flashlights, it is a good, intermediate machining project for someone with a lathe and mill. Anyone interested in this article should be able to obtain a back issue:

Actually, all lathe work was done on a manual lathe. The only mill work is a recess for an internal machine screw, cutting out the lens (window) and copper clad (PCB, for spring plate), and engraving. Everything but engraving could be done an a manual mill (but would be good to have a rotary table). The magazine article does provide G-code for cutting out the lens and spring plate. The engraving is where a CNC mill really is needed.

I suppose that investing in a CNC lathe is what would really be needed to make a these at a price someone would actually pay.
