Could someone recommend a decent charger and brand of protected 18650 rechargeable batteries? I don't have much experience so would appreciate some advice

This one is easy....

In batts........AW or WE or Pila

In chargers.......Pila IBC or WE or UF-139 from AW

Personal preference is AW cells with Pila IBC charger

Well the hardest is the Pila gear...in the US try from the following; http://www.pila-usa.com/Pila_ Dealers.htm

AW is here, look him up and send him a PM, he also has a couple of threads on his cells and the UF charger.

And the WE stuff, either try http://www.pts-flashlights.com/ in the US or http://wolfeyes.com.au/ if you are in AU.
