Hello all,

This is kind of a beginner question. I have two Fenix P3d Q5 which I bought several years apart. Although these flashlights are supposed to be excatly the same model, one provides a more greenish light and the other has a very bright white light. Were there different kinds of Q5 leds used in the production of the P3d Q5?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

:welcome:
Q5 only indicates the brightness not the tint. Usually the bigger manufacturers can not specify an exact LED because they do not know what exact bin will be available to them next. Even with limited runs they will not be able to tell for sure. For example you will see this notice on 4sevens WARMS page:
"This is a VERY special limited run (possibly the only run) Cree XP-G Warm White version. The exact bins used will be either 7A3 or 7B4 with a Q5 flux. Sorry will not be able to tell you which bin is used - it will just be either one or the other."

At the time the P3D Q5 was made the commonly available tints were Q5WC, Q5WD, Q5WG, Q5WH. From your description you probably have a Q5WG (greenish) and a Q5WC (pure white).

The Q5 is available in many more tints. The 7A and 7B tints for the 4sevens WARMS lights are out and out yellow

I have two L2D q5 I bought years apart.

They also have a different tint, but more noticeable is that the later one has a more pronounced hotspot vs. spill. In fact it looked more like the first gen LD20 than the older L2D.

Thank you very much, LEDninja, for this very informative answer.
