do you really need all the lights you have

No, I don´t.

But I don´t buy just the things that I need. Sometimes I buy things that I like, too.

i picked up a mag 2d last weekend while doing the shopping in asda/wall mart simply because it was on sale for £12 around half the price they normally sell for across here in the uk and i thought i might have a go at modding it
my good lady asked WHAY you do not have any real use for lights so why keep buying them.
she is right they are all toys to me i work night shift and carry 3 lights with me fenix lod around my neck -ld10 no my belt -and a zebra-light h30 in my bag and never had to use any of them in the two years i have been doing this job.
my workmates all ask why i carry lights as every where we go is fully lit do any of you guys carry lights and never really need them or do you have a real use for them even at home i dont really have a use for lights one or two for emergency and in the car
but finding it difficult to justify the money I'm spending on lights i really dont need

My friend, you need to get creative and FIND things to use your lights on :D .

I do use my lights. Everything from camping/hiking to boating at night to fixing my car at night to finding a dropped something at the movies to... well, you get the picture. Kind of like the uses for the knives that I carry. I EDC a ~3" (7.5cm) blade folding knife along with a light and I use them both.

Do you really need all the lights you have?

No.

Nor do I really need all the golf clubs that I have, nor all the books, nor the magazine subscriptions, nor credit card accounts, nor my spare truck parked at my Dad's house.

Have you ever watched "Darkness Falls"? You could never be too prepared. Watch the movie with your wifey and she'll approve your purchase. It didn't work for me, but hopefully it work for you. :D

im new to this so i can proudly say YES!

I am still buying lights on Need Basis!

still need: small edc, hi-power mce/p7, and backup small edc, and hi-po incan. +few cool ones.

after those..
the "need" should be sorted, only "want" might stay.

i think the limit between Need/Want is hazy, but in my mind it goes somewhere like 20 flashlights.

No, and it goes for the Blade heads, Gun nuts, Fishing-pole maniacs, and HID heads

but that alone cannot justify not buying more

the thing is, the more you try to analyze the applications you would use a light in the more you will realize that no light is perfect and your only one light away from arriving at the light you need, only to fall short once you've seen the new lights potential...then you start over until
1: your wallet is empty
2: your credit cards full
3: your significant other is threatening you
4: ...:ohgeez:

For me, maybe not so much. But I'm just starting out.
I got a decent variety shipment of flashahol from DX.. To try and find which features might be more important to me.

I'm trying to replace all my 1xAAA Dorcy's that I have with better and/or brighter versions... As well as some lights my parents have that are woefully underpowered - and require huge D cells to boot.

So right now, I'm still in the process of deciding which lights will be used for which purpose.

I haven't found too many 'perfect' lights yet, but the Romisen RC-H3 and RC-B3 seem to be quite nice.
I think I'm finding forward-clickies to be a very important feature in future lights I might buy!

So, for my next order - try to find some more forward clickies!

I have around 8 lights, but mainly carry two or three with me all the time. 8 seems to be a magic number for me because whenever I exceed that, i tend to give away the models i don't use to my friends and family.

i remember my cousin would trip out on why would he need a very bright light (i gave him a Surefire G2L in yellow). A couple of months later, i see the G2L in his room, next to some piece of electronics he was working on. He told me he used the light quite a bit and told me how useful it is.

after that, i think he knew why i'm into lights. lovecpf

I work during the day and carry 3 lights with a combined value of more than US$200 - do I need them? Well a cheap little AAA light or fauxton would probably do the job when I need to crawl under a desk and peer into a dark computer case - but screw that!

The light stopped working in my ensuite a bunch of weeks ago, I should get the switch fixed (changed the bulb, isn't that) but I can tailstand my L2D, Jet-IIIM or 2D ROP Low in there and see perfectly well.

I go camping and for 1 night only I can make do with taking 5 lights, for several nights I would probably take 8 or so - I may not need all of them but I get a good opportunity to play with several lights if I am camping for a few nights, so why not.

I guess the answer to the original question would be that some quality lights are needed for when you need them and more than that is probably just collecting them because you enjoy it. Maybe a dozen or so for need and everything beyond that for want?
