I have to ask you a question about your new lathe. How do you power it? We have a Hardinge tool room lathe at work and it is a 5+ HP machine that runs on 460/480 VAC 3 phase power! Did you re-wire your house to run it??

Although your closing comments are somewhat cynical, I agree completely with them. If I can make it to a CPF get-together, maybe we can determine which of us is the more cynical!

if Don's is indeed 3 phase 460/480 as well, all he would need do is have a transformer and buck booster, but that would get a little expensive (few grand), doubtful he has 460/480 3 phase running to his home.

You have done and continue to do things about the situation you've described and it is inspiring.

I'm putting myself in line for your next offering. Whatever the configuration and details of the production model of this slick little light turn out to be, I'll want some.

I really like the idea of mounting the swivel clip button a bit forward of the tail. The accessory port's location at the very rear of the McLux powerpack is the main reason I don't use the button with the McLux (though I realize the idea for the button came after the powerpacks had been machined). If something like this does make it into production, I'd like to see the button mount on one side and an additional tripod mounting hole on the opposite side of the knurled section.

The place I got the lathe had 4 Hardinges's. I think they were all 1.5 HP but two of them were 440/3 phase and two of them, mine included, were 220/3 phase. I did have to get a rotary phase converter that was around $600 after I got it wired up. The other Hardinge had not been rebuilt yet but it was in really good condition and had a Metric as well as English gear box for threads. It was $2000 more and although I would like to be able to cut metric, I saved the money and got a machine that had been brought back to like new condition.

If the lanyard ring groove weren't there, there is enough wall thickness at that position for a blind tapped hole for both the tab and a 1/4"x20 port opposite eachother.
