Anybody seen Dorcy's 3 watt LED lantern? I've got one of ace hardware's red and black lanterns and I've been wanting to try and take advantage of it's big reflector, but this thing seems it would lend itself better to modding. I'm guessing it uses a luxeon III and swapping it out for a seoul P4 would be the first priority. It also comes with a 4D battery adapter so it can be used with batteries other then alkalines. I can bet this thing will throw great too. Using an EverLED drop-in in my current lantern (see above), it easily throws 100 yards.

Man, I can't believe I missed that at flashlight reviews. I thought this was a newer product. Oh well, they can keep it.

I got one long time ago....dont waste your time....and money.

I once went to Sears to look at this latern

if you look hard enough, the "heatsink" under the luxeon III is sitting on is nothing more than a plastic stool. In fact, other than the LED there is nothing on the entire casing that relates anything to metal....so what you wind up is a cooked luxeon III and a bunch of useless plastic components.

While that I cannot see the relation to an embedded driver until in depth disassembly is made I cannot say that as fact.

yeah, don't waste your money:)

Yeah I dunno that doesn't look like a lantern to me and dorcy can be questionable. I have a coleman collapsible lantern that I got for about 25-30 bucks that is quite nice. Puts out about 120 lumens. I recommend diffusing it with a thin plastic bag though otherwise its hard to look at.

This one from rayovac doesnt look bad either but I dont know anything about it. Also I don't know the website at all this is jsut to give you an idea:
