Dropped my Lumapower M1!

I work as a security guard and carry my personal Lumapower M1 on a daily basis. I dropped it today while putting it back in my pocket (juggling keys and light one-handed). It fell from just below waist-height and landed on the front bezel. It wasn't a hard impact and there isn't any damage to the body or lens, but it stopped working. I plan to e-mail Lumapower tomorrow and see if they will repair or replace it under warranty. I've heard good things about their customer service, so I'm hoping they will take care of it. I'll post their reply when I receive it.

Luckily I had an old and battered Inova X5MT in my pocket as a backup, so I was able to finish my rounds. I know the Inova isn't in the same league (or price range) as the LM M1, but it was enough to get the job done. Hopefully I can get my M1 fixed quickly and get it back into service.

Joe Gonzalez

Aw man!. It happens so don't worry about it. But its worrying if it doesn't work after a usual drop though. All the best ......

Lumapower sure was fast! I sent them an e-mail explaining the circumstances and they sent this reply within an hour. Their customer service response seems excellent! :twothumbs

Subject: Warranty repair

Hi,

I have a Lumapower M1 that I purchased a few months ago. I use it daily while working as a graveshift security guard. I accidentally dropped it while putting it in my pocket and now it won't work. There doesn't appear to be any damage since the fall was so short, but I can't get it to work, even with new batteries. Can I get it repaired under warranty? Where do I send it?

Regards,

Joe Gonzalez

Well it is great to hear how quickly they work to resolve such problems. But, having said that, one has to wonder about a light that fails after such a minor incident. I'll just bite my tongue on this one :ironic:

Looks good, be sure to followup after you get it back so we have an idea of how long it takes.

I'm really surprised. I consider the M1 to be one of the best-built Chinese lights out there.

A few weeks ago I was trying to amuse a 1 year old kid with my M1. As soon as I handed it off to him, he began pounding the ground with the tailcap. The kid's father quickly handed the light back to me.
Later that night I when needed my light, I went to turn it on and it did not. When I got home I started messing with it. It didn't start working again until I tightened the ring which holds the reflector into the bezel. With my M1 it seems that if the metal reflector isn't tightened all the way in, then it puts pressure on the LED pill. When that happens it stops working.

Thats the only problem I have with Chinese cree or even surefire lights for that matter. I just cringe everytime one takes a tumble. SL propolymers, SurvivorLEDs, certian pelican lights, Energizer hardcases, I have faith in all these taking a big tumble. 2Xcr123 lights that are unarmored from any manufacture I just don't believe are as bulletproof as we hope they are.

If you have the money, I'd be happy to demonstrate how a SF 6P fails after such a minor incident. In fact, if you like the demonstration I'll do it as many times as your bank account will support! :poke:

Demonstration not required :D There's a reason why I'm a fan of Photon keychain lights, Inova X1's, and simple Maglites with LED drop in's - They are the survivors of the light world - with the long run times I demand too. And crazy low priced as well come to think of it ;)

Don't overlook Wayne Johnson (Elektro Lumens). He also has what you're looking for.
