DX alternative for LED driver?

In mid-February, I placed an order for the parts I needed to upgrade my NR Trail Rat from Halogen to LED. Within a week or so, I got everything except the LED driver, (sku 7425).
Several more weeks went by and the part's back-order date kept getting pushed back, (as of today, it says the part should ship out on April 4th). So I went to 7x24deal.com, which stated that the part was in stock and would ship out within a week, and ordered the same part along with a couple of other items. I didn't cancel the DX order, since it was less than $4 and I figured I would use the part on another project, in the future.

Now I have received the order from 7x24deal without the driver. I have everything I need to do my upgrade, except the LED driver, and I'm about ready to just throw in the towel and order a Scolo for my bike.

Where else can I order a driver that can handle 6v input and modulate the output between 500 and 1000ma?

Please excuse my ignorance, but don't all of these require hacking to modulate the output?
(This is my first DIY build).

Hi, I don't understand very well your question...:thinking: this circuit automatically regulate the output voltage depending of the number or leds that your connect to her, whenever you put the neccesary voltage/ampere necessary to the number of leds that you want connect.

The DX Kennan requires some hacking to change the output... desoldering components and adding leads. You perhaps need to be good with a soldering iron. This is the cheapest solution. Its only rated at 755mA though. The others do 1A.

The Luxdrive buckpuck needs a potentiometer attached so you can alter the current. It has wires for this so its easy to attach the pot. This is the easiest solution.

The taskled driver is microcontroller ... controlled. 5 brightness levels (set by you) can be switched between at the touch of a button. You need to solder wires to the circuit board, but its not so hard.
Im a big fan of the taskled bflex (just got a new one in the post today).

Thanks for the information, but with over $70 already invested in this upgrade, I'm going to just wait for DX to ship my driver.

I just checked their site and the date has been pushed back, yet again. (sigh)

I have had that problem with every order from DX.

Everything arrives but the drivers, "ships in 2-5 days" really means "ships in 2-5 weeks".

It is frustrating having a bunch of lights built, ready to go except for a key part.

I'm afraid that's not me. I do use MMACH 5 on bikeforums.net, geocaching.com and a few other sites.
It's an anagram of my family's first names, (Michael, Madison, Abigail, Chance & Heather). I was a huge Speed Racer fan, as a kid, so this screen name seemed to fit.

Last night, I got a shipping confirmation email, so it looks like my driver will be here in a week or so.
