Hi all,

Im now in search of a blinding LED flashlight - ive owned the Pila GL4 for years but its frustrating to keep replacing the bulb, so im in search of a LED torch with high output.

Ive looked on the surefire website and the E2D LED Defender seems like the highest LED output torch they have 5 (Low) 120 (High) Lumens and it takes 2 x 123a batteries.

does anyone else have any other suggestions?

I think the oLight's 220 lumens would match up pretty well with the surefire's 120. Surefire usually underestimates. Most of the other manufacturers usually use bulb lumens, which dramatically overestimates.

If I was told I could only keep one of my 15 or so LED lights it would be my E2D LED Defender. I don't think you could be sorry purchasing it as your first LED light. However if the cost is too high and your looking for something less expensive the Fenix L2D, P2D and P3D are all very good lights as are the Olights. No matter which you purchase I would go with the premium version with the Q5 emitter. If cost is not a factor then I also enjoy my Inova T4-MP or if I only planned on buying one LED light I would wait on the SureFire UA2 or UB2. One or the other will hopefully be out soon.

Thanks for all your replies,

First i was inclined towards the Olight T20 (T or M) because of its impressive output - but

(1) Surefire are VERY well built pieves of kit
(2) You stated that the output of Surfire torches is usually underestimated and the E2D LED Defender compared to the Olight T20 would be very similar.

So here comes me next Dilema - "Hitthespot" - now its your fault :)

Ive just looked at the Surefire UB2 - VERY impressive 2/400 Lumen output - when will this be released? and what cost do you expect it to be?

Thanks for all your help

The Surefire would definitely out throw the Olights due to it's optic but the Olight T20 would still have more output, though this might not seem so with the stronger hotspot of the E2DL(the difference itself isn't huge either so a ceiling bounce might only register the Olight as a bit brighter). Olight uses at the LED lumen which is of course lower the out the front and Surefire uses conservative out the front lumen but 120 and 220 is still a pretty big difference and despite the difference in measuring, 220 at the LED lumen still translates to more then the 120 lumen of the E2DL. How much more I don't know.

I read somewhere that the UB2 would be out sometime late this year or early next year, but I can'c confirm.
