so i noticed my e2dl turns on and off randomly while i am unscrewing the tailend switch. not sure if this is normal or why this is happening. can any of you guy shed light on the issue and how should i approach surefire with it? i still love this light but i don't think it should have a problem like this.

i'm not unscrewing it to turn it off or on, but if you turn it one full turn to disable the switch, it shouldn't turn the light on. if i unscrew it slowly and stop unscrewing the moment it turns on it will remain on. from there if i unscrew it further it will turn off. if you unscrew it rapidly it will flicker off an on until the tailcap is completely off. i just don't want the light to activate in my pocket because it managed to unscrew the tailcap a bit in my pocket

Check the spring on your tailcap, what it could be doing is its scraping against the side of the body while connected to the battery end during rotating. When it does contact the body it bypasses the tailcap and turns the light on.

considering the E2DL is an E series light and it should be a front loader: you replace batteries through the bezel, not through the tailcap, so there shouldn't be any reason you would need to touch the tailcap unless of course your constantly locking it out.

the 6P isn't a comparable light to work with, plus the tailcap design is totally different:eek:

you were right about the spring, if you look at it, it is crooked and leans toward the side. how can i straighten out the spring? thanks for your help guys!!

well, theres a couple ways you can do it

  1. Call surefire, have them send you a new one because they shouldn't have the issue in the first place
  2. Locate the loop of metal closest to the curve and bend it a bit in the opposite direction, ymmv.
  3. put some tape on the side of the spring or the areas of the body the spring may travel on. Since the contacting edge is above the threads, placing some tape on the inside shouldn't render the light inoperable, but tape may snug up the cells a bit and if your light gets hot from extended use you might have a real sticky mess to werk with
