My neighbor works as a technician for a utilities company (cable, mostly, I think) and knows of my unhealthy love of flashlights. He asked me to find him a good headlamp for around $30, with a max of $40. I did some searching, but wasn't able to find anything really good for the $30, but what do you think of this?

It's at his upper limit, but for 185 lumens, and being 3xAAA, I don't think it's bad. The colored 5 mm LED's I could take or leave, but I don't think he'll mind them at all.

I like how it has the strap that goes over your head, and not just around your head.

If anyone has any other suggestions for that price range, let me know. :)

Thanks!

3xAAA has only 15% more milliamp/hours at 3x the cost than 1 AA battery, and are more cumbersome to change recharge and sort.

For example

42$ even at Amazon, 1xAA, 105 lumens
The Fenix HL20 headlamp features a lightweight headband, CREE's XP-E R2 emitter, and a compact design. The HL20 runs off a single AA battery and puts out up to 105 emitter lumens. Lamp and battery case are in a single integrated unit. Fantastic for camping, hiking, caving and for stowing in your car in case of emergencies.
