EMS Orange Malkoff MD2!!!

It would actually be orange colored ceramic coating over metal. A very hard and durable ceramic coating.

Looks like there's only one left on this run. Might be a while till the next one.

Gene, you out there?

Got mine today, and it's gorgeous! The finish is bright, and feels great in the hand. I stuffed my Malkoff Diamond Dragon into it with a lens, and it works perfectly.

:goodjob: Gene!

What?

You have a Malkoff Diamond Dragon Drop-in and no pictures of the module or beamshoots:dedhorse:

Whoa! A wha, wha whaat?

The finish is great, and the color is just right, orange enough, but not flourescent orange.

I put some strips of SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) tape in three of the grooves, for that USCG look. :D

Another great host by the Malkoff Family!!

Crappy cell pics:

BTW . . . .

Thank you to PoliceScannerMan for your mention,
a couple months ago, of that SOLAS-grade Reflective Tape.

I bought a roll, and it is ABSOLUTE DYNAMITE ! ! !

:wow::wow::wow:

If your only experience is the reflective tape available
in Auto Parts stores, or Hardware stores, or Wal-Mart & Kmart --

you won't BELIEVE how well this stuff reflects light !

It's like a Cree XP-G (R5), compared to a 5mm emitter.

No kidding, folks -- it's THAT good !

Yeah. I sent Gene several Diamond Dragons a few months ago, and cajoled him into making some special drop-ins for me.

This one is a standard Surefire drop-in driven at 2A, and using a faceted reflector rather than an optic:

At that drive current, it should be at or over 400 bulb lumens.

No beamshots, but it rivals ArcMania's Diamond Dragon Mega Micro. Cool white and beautiful.

What's the runtime like?

Also, how's the pattern? Seems like it'd be a bit on the flood side, but not so wide as a Roomsweeper.

Runtime depends upon how much tube I put behind it. With 2A drive current, it eats 2x RCR123s pretty quickly. I've run it on 2x 2600mAH 18650s and get much more.

It's definitely a wider beam than Gene's (non-flood) optic drop-ins, but not even close to 'roomsweeper' status. It's got a pronounced central hotspot which is stronger than usual, but also wider than usual, and much hotter spill.

I have this emitter in several different lights (reflector sizes) ranging from an EX10 all the way up to a Maglite. As you might expect, the larger reflectors (27mm, 45mm and up) produce better throw.

Here's an animated GIF comparing 3 HD45s, with X-Bin, SSC P4 and Diamond Dragon emitters.

I couldn't justify buying an beautiful orange MD2 even though I wanted one so I had to do it the hard way. thermal image after the first minute of on time.

This is after 4 more minutes so its got at least 5 minutes on it and its so well distributing the heat the temp gradient from front to rear is very low. It is such a wonderful orange color.

This is the spot on the table where it was sitting. Since it doesn't sit flat against the table this is not unusual. What I wanted to point out was that the very rear end of the tail cap area of the light that did have good contact with the table was transferring heat to it very well. This is why I only buy Aluminum bodied flashlights. The MD2 and I am sure the MD3 and MD4 host systems are excellent at transferring heat away from the module inside. This is a most excellent host system in any color. :D

That is way cool MrGman. I think you need to test the effect of cerakote on heat distribution vs. AL so you'd better snag one.
