i use rechargeables in all my lights but now i've got an illuminati aaa for my keychain, and i'm wondering if i should use lithiums in it? it's mostly for emergency use and i want it to work when i need it, but i also want it to be as bright as possible.

My personal view is that rechargables are mainly to save you money if a device is used a lot. If you're going to use something rarely or possibly even never, then previously I would have kept some alkalines in a packet with it (ready to put in and use, rather than storing in a device where they may leak) but since Lithiums are now readily available I keep lithiums in the emergency torches etc. and just test them every month.

So yes, I'd say go for lithium.

Sometimes the alkalines can leak and LSD batteries are good for about three years. Spend the cash and go lithium primary for longer life and cold weather.

thanks for the replys. so- will it be brighter with lithiums or eneloops? maybe a dumb question but i can't remember ever using lithiums.

Depends if you are talking about lithium primaries or lithium-ion rechargeables.

I know you can use lithium-ion rechargeables in LD01 (similar aaa light to the illuminati) and it is definitely brighter with the lithium-ion.

The lihtium primary may be a bit brighter than the eneloop but not by much.

When I first got my iTP A3 EOS, I put a lithium primary in it, thinking along the same lines as you.

"Mostly for emergency use" turned into riding in my watch/coin pocket.
I killed the lithium primary in less than 2 weeks and now I have a Duraloop in it. Just as bright as the lithium primary was.

thanks black rose. i was thinking that i'd probably use it a lot more often since it's always going to be on my keys, so i might as well stick with the eneloops.

Consistently good advice is found in these forums. I agree with the other posters, based on my own experience. NiMH for frequent use, Lithium Primaries for little use or emergency dependability and, simply, avoid alkies.

Unless caught quickly, leaking alkaline primaries may ruin your expensive lights. Even new ones leak.

I've found Lithium primaries to be a bit brighter than eneloop and I use them in most of my AA/AAA lights. Although you can use Li-Ion cells in the LD01, it's not recommended. I was running a Li-Ion cell in the LD01 when I first bought then changed over to lithium primaries. I will say this: The LD01 on high with Li-Ion is simply amazing. Problem is you run the risk of burning out the driver. This came from the staff @ 4Sevens and I trust their recommendations.
