Just a little heads up to fellow members.
I bought this charger on a whim, since I need something small and compact for travel. (no fun traveling with a hobby charger, 12V power and charge cradle) It was on sale at my local HD. It looked like it might charge the cells independently, being that it has 4 different charge indicator LEDs... But it does not. it charges in series pairs just like any other cheap charger.:sigh:

It comes with Japan-origin 2450 cells, which have not given me any troubles in the past.

Thanks for sharing your info.

Which mini charger would be a good buy?

Thanks

I recently bought a Sony 4-cell charger that comes with 4 AA NiMH cells that will also charge AAA batteries from eBay. It'll charge single cells, mixed cells (different capacities or even different size: AA and AAA together) so long as they're NiMH cells. It will not charge NiCad cells. The only shortcoming is that the charge indicator light will only go out when the last battery is charged since there is only one light for all four batteries.

It's the one with the white plastic case and it does not use a separate power cable. The AC prongs flip out for use and fold flat for travel. I'll post the model number tomorrow if anyone needs it.

Have you done any testing on this charger yet?

I don't have the technical know how to do a detailed test. My cells are ~1.4V fresh off the charger. I am not sure if it fully terminates when the cells have peaked. The charge rate is 700 ma.

Best money I've ever spent on a 4x AA or AAA charger: Duracell CEF23. Very recently discontinued meaning:
a) they're going to be gone very soon
b) they're on sale

Long link: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product...spx?path=3d46dfa07d08090ab70e6b8c3c93e86fen02

4 independent channels, shuts off each as the cell finishes charging (not timer-based). Love it.

Edit: I should add, it comes with 1xAA and 1xAAA Duracell rechargeables. They're garbage, use them only if they're all you have left. You *may* luck out and get Duraloops with it. After buying it, take the batteries out and inspect the positive end. If there's a white ring around the metal contact point, and if they say Made in Japan 2000 mAh, you lucked out.
