Hi,

I have a 9P running a EO-9 bulb (well it is actually a FM 2x18500 body) that I dropped onto a concrete floor last night. The light stayed on for about 1-2 seconds before blowing, I actually got halfway through thinking "wow, that was lucky it didn't blow" before it went :poof:. Kinda hurts when a an AU$30 LA blows.:(

I was about to order another lamp, but thought I would see if there is anything else that would work as well or better. Either lamp assemblies or the FM bipin adapter? I assume FM has a globe similar to the EO-9 in bipin?

After looking through MD's chart the SF P91 and FM's 1794 would be pushing the 18500's a bit (well maybe not the P91). How about FM CL1499 or TL-3 (not so bright), I can find a few posts about them but not too many other than people saying "I'm running x and it is great". I have a P90 on its way to me for a backup lamp.

I guess I am after everyone's thoughts on options of similar brightness to the EO-9 to find out if there is anything else I should buy instead.

Cheers,
Nova

Here is the thread for FM's D26 sockets and the bulbs recommended for them.

I think you just had bad luck with your EO-9, which is a great LA. Bulb life is an an average figure to expect, not a guarantee. Obviously dropping it didn't help, but LF products are very robust in my experience.

Some of your choices for replacement lamp, a mixture of D26 and bi-pins.....

P90............1.18 A
TL-3...........1.25
WE9...........1.34
HO-9..........1.55
CL1499.......1.84
EO-9..........2.00
P91............2.70
FM1794.......3.00

the 18500's are about 1500mAh ? The HO-9 or the CL1499 would be a nice comfortable combination.

Dropping it severely shortened the life. There are not supposed to be little pieces of glass inside the bezel are there?:ohgeez: The filament didn't just burn out, the whole globe smashed.

Sounds like I need to find a 1499 in a bipin adapter or stick with the EO-9.

Thanks,
Nova

I dropped my M3 bezel-down once and it landed completely flat on the bezel :poof: There went my $19+tax+shipping LF HO-M3!

So uncool :ohgeez:

The good thing about the 1499 in FM-D26 set-up is that it is adjustable from spot to flood.....and it is much cheaper to replace once blown.

Long shot guess on your lamp going boof. When the flashlight impacted the concrete floor the shock transferred to the lamp causing a fracture in the envelope. The fill gas began to escape and the atmosphere was compromised with outside air. The pressure in the envelope dropped very briefly then built up to the point that the envelope popped.

If it's convenient and the mood strikes you to take a photo, I'd like to add it to the Race to Failure thread. Sorry about your lamp. Before coming to CPF I thought $30.00 was a lot for an entire flashlight. $30.00 is still $30.00. Ouch.

I took some pics, one with the EO-9 in the light and another with the contents of the bezel emptied out (need to clean out the insode of the lens...). Enjoy.:duh2:

Thank you very much, Inova. Nice lighting in these great photos showing detail and highlighting the white residue.

Well, my P90 arrived today, so I can get the torch going again and I have ordered 2 EO-9's so when the next one blows I will have a spare.

Looks like I will have to keep my eyes peeled for a P91 or 1499 to try out too...
