External Hard Drive Switching Issues.

Hello all! I am asking for the help of the more knowledgeable people here 'cos I have issues with the way my external Western Digital Book...something HD switches off and on.

The problem mainly comes from the fact that its function is linked to the PC. Whenever the PC is switched off the HD switches off, and vice versa.

If I try to break this connection with manually turning the HD drive off, the PC will not shut down later. It just hangs there probably waiting to link to the HD for who knows what.

Also they share the same recycle bin, and the HD switches ON whenever there is a fluctuation in Grid electrical power or the power in the home is off and on again.

So what are my chances of fixing these? Can it be as simple as making BIOS settings and which?

From what I've just read that device should have an internal setup web page the same as most routers do.
I'm not sure how you'll access it via usb though. Is there a driver cd that came with it that has a setup program?

There is a driver program that came with it. You can set it in various ways. I have mine on a linux system, so I've never seen the program
