False Alarm

Re: disappointment in Malkoff M60L

I have an M60L and really enjoy it. Brighter than my DX 6090 (P4) and I like the balance between flood and throw.

Maybe contact Gene to see if you can troubleshoot or have a dud.

Re: disappointment in Malkoff M60L

Yes, I'm using Fresh Surefire Batteries. I'm going to send the Manufacturer an email also...

Gene's customer service is unbelievable. Just contact him and it'll get straightened out. I had an M60L, definitely bright, maybe something wrong with yours...

Re: disappointment in Malkoff M60L

You can easily sell that in the Marketplace for just about what you paid for it. I have the DX sku number 6090 in my G2's. They don't get that hot and are pretty bright too.

It's hard to compare Surefire lumens to most other brands because Surefire measures theirs out of the front where most other companies measure theoretical lumens at the emitter. But still, 140 Malkoff lumens should beat 45 Surefire lumens so lets see what other have to say. Can you post beamshots with a popular light for comparison?

Last but not least, Gene (Malkoff) will take care of you if you're not happy.

Re: disappointment in Malkoff M60L

I'm all for giving the manufacturer a chance to make things right. I'm just dumbfounded as to the output. I hope its simply a dud unit.

Re: disappointment in Malkoff M60L

It turns out that the Malkoff unit is fine. I got a complete box of junk batteries! I bought two boxes of 12 while I was at Cabelas, and one complete box is weak batteries! I will have to take this up with Surefire in the morning. My apologies to Malkoff. the unit is much brighter with new batteries.

Out of respect for Gene, I suggest you change the title of this thread to something like...

Disappointment in Malkoff M60L (FALSE ALARM)

Re: disappointment in Malkoff M60L

It's all about RCR's with Malkoff
What does that mean? I'm just a lowly end user of the product.
RCR123A
It's a rechargable lithium-ion battery that puts out 3.7 volts. I got 40 minutes of runtime in a 6P with my Malkoff M60. A M60L should run for about 2 hours.

You cannot use these with a Surefire brand incandescent light bulb.

Re: disappointment in Malkoff M60L

Maybe invest in a multi-meter so you can check the voltage of your batteries. If you are running 2 cells in a light you really need to do this. If you put a dead battery in with a fresh one they could go BOOOOOM. You should make sure they are voltage matched. Fresh cells should be, but as you can see, even batteries that should be good can be duds.

Also you should update your title to "disappointment in SF batteries from Cabelas" as that was the problem, not the Malkoff unit.

Good suggestion! I will indeed...

Part of the problem with using a multimeter to test is a dead flat lithium primary can read 2.7v open circuit on the multimeter. I checked some some drained batteries that my M60 had drained fairly thoroughly (they were over 2 hours in, and very dim at that point). While they read 2.7+ volts and would turn on the M60, when connected to a 2.2 volt 1amp incan lamp they wouldn't even make it glow, and voltage under load dropped to zero, for comparison I checked a brand new cell and it lit the bulb brightly and read 3v under load. I haven't used one but one of the ZTS testers I think is a solid investment.
