I found this Fenix L2D Premium Q5 Cree XR-E that says it has 180 lumens on turbo. And this one, Fenix L2D Premium100 Rebel LED thats says it has 175 lumens on turbo. I know thats not alot of difference in output, but is one better than the other? They are both the same price. I'm just wanting to make sure I get the right light. I was wondering the differences and pro's and con's of the Cree vs. Luxeon. I'm mounting it on my bicycle.

I don't have the rebel. But I have heard the rebel has a better beam pattern.

I have the Cree. It is still a bit ringy even with the textured reflector. The light has a dim area about 15-20 feet out before it gets brighter again at the spot.

Both are fine, I would recommend either. But i would recommend buying from Fenix-store.com . Free shipping and an 8% discount with the CPF coupon code. I think its CPF8. But I may be wrong. And they have the two-fish light bike mounts as well.

The L2D-CE Q5 will be a bit brighter but the Rebel 100 would have better color renditioning.

IMO it is better to buy form Fenix Store. Better service and they have a 8% off coupon for CPF users, "CPF8". L2D-CE Q5 and L2D-Rebel 100. Actual lumen out the front is probably around 150-160 lumen.

In short, the Q5 LED is more then double the efficiency of the Luxeon LEDs(except the Rebel 80 and 100). The Q5 produces more lumens at 350 mA then the Luxeon III produces at 1 amp. The Seoul P4 has less performance but still has more lumens at 350 mA then the Luxeon III at 1 amp.

Two-fish blocks for attaching the light.

The jolts form the road might disconnect the batteries for a very short time and cause the light to change modes. You might want a simple light for a bicycle light, one that won't change modes because of a jolt.

If you are just lighting up the path, a Cree/Seoul 18650 light from Dealextreme will suit your purposes and still be cheaper even with 2 batteries and a charger. But you do lose the strobe function. I would recommend the WF-400 with 2 18650 batteries and a charger if you just need to light your path, comes out to around $40 shipped.

:welcome:

I haven't noticed a jolting issue, but I guess it could happen.

Perhaps the L2T RB80 would be better then. Its cheaper too. I wish they made a rebel 100 version :(

How many lumens is that light, do you know??? I never saw anything on the sight. Those 18650 batteries, are they AA???

Thanks for everyones help,

Ray

Hi Ray,

Nope, they're different. The name of the 18650 is derived from their physical size -- a cylinder whose nominal dimensions are 18mm in diameter and 65mm in length. The voltage is different, too -- 18650s are LiIon batteries at ~3.7V.

My Fenix L2D-CE Premium Q5 arrived in the mail today. Tomorrow I'll try it out as a bike light. I can let you know how I like it, but I think lots of people have already posted their comments in earlier threads.

I wound up getting the Fenix L2D-CE Premium Q5 from Fenix Store. I liked the other flashlights metioned here in the post, but the only thing that kept me from getting them was the batteries. I ride out in the boondocks sometimes and wanted a battery that I could stop in any old mom and pop store and get spares if I needed. Hopefully I won't have any of the jolting problems. I appreciate all the help and information. I learned alot.

Thanks again,

Ray

Everybody say that Rebel has more warm color tint. When I got one last weekend I was impressed with this flashlight. Really bright and nice beam pattern. I don't thing Q5 and Rebel 100 are too different to make you hard choice. IMO it's personal preference. I'm going to order another Rebel 100 (for double helmet light) to avoid color temperature mixing.

Gunner12,

"WF-400 with 2 18650 batteries and a charger if you just need to light your path, comes out to around $40 shipped" - do you know what kind of bike and bike helmet mounts I can use with this light? Seems like a great deal. Thanks for pointing out. I"d be using for night riding and skiing.

I've got a P3D-Q5 on order, if it turns up for the weekend I'll post some beam shots. I'm going to mod it to run from an external pack so the fact it doesn't use AA batteries isn't really an issue for me. On one of the mountain bike forums I visit someone has just posted how happy they are with the L2D as a helmet light.

I can tell the same. I use my L2D Rebel 100 as helmet light with main 20w Halogen and it is really usefull. But just only L2D pretty enough for road and good paths. If I was'nt that mad about extremely bright systems I 'd say two L2D on helmet is sufficient and perfect (price/brightness/weight) bike light.

Here are the beam shots from my P3D-Q5 with orange peel reflector:

200 ISO, f9.0, 8sec

10W Halogen
High Mode
Turbo Mode

I'm very impressed and given the brightness I can't see the slightly lower output of the L2C being a problem and it has the advantage of using AA batteries.

I bought the P3D rebel 100, and I think it´s very good. But one thing is bad, the runtime. Should I buy the tactile option (51$) to get 3x R123 or buy a new flashlight like L2D? I got the WF-139 Li-ion charger and 4 R123.

What charger/batteries is recommended for the L2D ? What runtime will I get at turbo-mode ?
With the P3D rebel 100 I about +1hour. Probably with 3xR123 I will get about +1,5hour.

What other flashlight is good ? WF-800 from DX? I think it got very small throw for MTB.

I think a Twofish mount might work.

rayfrady: Enjoy your new light!
