Noob looking for pocket-size EDC. Must be easy to operate with one hand (the other will be busy with two dog leashes!)

Prefer tail-operated push button with single AA.

Reading the posts on the LD10, D10 and the Connexion X2. Is one easier to operate than the others? Is there another option that's easier to use?

My first serious torch is the TK11 R2 -- bought after reading the advice here.

Now looking for something smaller. Doesn't have to be a thrower; looking for something to light the way on pavements or parks, as well as an EDC that fits comfortably in pocket or hand.

Plan to purchase mail order. Price is open, but hopefully not too much more than the above three lights.

Many thanks in advance for your help. This is a super site!

Welcome to CPF, hatman.

Your question is about LED lights, so I'll move your thread into the LED Flashlights sub-forum, where I think you'll receive plenty of feedback.

Nitecore EX10 is a nice light...can be preset to whatever level you want. Tailcap sunken on/off switch. I'm very happy with mine and use it daily...small enough for your pocket..

HI there.

All 3 lights are very good choices. I think ease of use is simlar, but if you want the "easiest" UI to learn, I think the following order is good (easy to hard).

LD10 - Connexion X2 - D10

Keep in mind I like all 3 lights and find them easy to use. Some people have issues with the piston system of the D10 (but I think they are great myself).

Any other criteria? Throw? Max level, Lower low level, strobe, size, efficiency, clip?

Gunga,
Doesn't need to be a serious thrower; spread would be helpful for night walks.

Don't need strobe or SOS.

Probably don't need a lot of choices of levels, and I'd prefer a low level that isn't too low. As for higher level, in general, the brighter the better, is my sense.

That said, I'm looking for simple, one-handed, reliable and something that doesn't require a holster and that I'd feel comfortable carrying in a pocket for every day.

Thanks again.

For my purposes the D10 works best. I've tried the LD10 and I don't need the strobe so out it went. I haven't tried the X2 though so I can't comment. I have the pocket clip on the D10 it helps with anti roll and fits nicely in my pocket. Very easy one handed operation. The low could be a bit lower for me but I use some "custom" beam diffusers and filters in different colors for different operations. It's a good EDC for me and it is a good back up to my other lights. It fits nicely in the battery sleeve for my M20 holster. Just my 2 cents.

Viper,
I should add that I like the idea of a clip, although not having one wouldn't be a deal breaker for the right light.
Thanks,

I bought the clip separately from 4sevens I'm thinking of ordering the piston with the trit slot from him as well.

I have a D10 and a Lumapower Incendio which is a CR123 cell version of the X2.

I think I would go for the X2. Its nice to have dedicated levels and you know the runtime at each level. This lets you gauge how long the light will run when using a particular level.

One advantage that the X2 has over the LD10 is that it can use rechargable lithium cells if you want. It also does not have strobe. One last feature that can be useful is the memorize mode so that you can always turn on the light in the prefered brightness setting.

These are all very good AA lights.

The LD10 is a very nice light. I would not hesitate to buy another one. I like to belt carry, don't like bulk in my pockets and the LD10's holster is very functional.

I am sure the others are good lights as well. Don't have those, but the LD10/ LD20 set up has been good for the wife and I.

I'd recommend the D10. It's a very versatile light, and it fits comfortably in your hand.

My custom D10 is my favorite light. (Ti body and Q3-5A neutral tint LED)

Any other pocket-size Fenix models that you recommend for easy single-handed operation?

It's not a Fenix, but these are some very nice lights for single-handed operation. I've modded a few for people, and they seem like they're well worth the higher price.

I've had all 3 at one point or another. For simplicity, easy UI, well built, I'd go with the Lumapower.

Thanks and could you kindly elaborate: what makes the Lumapower easier for one handed-use than the others?

Would you feel comfortable carrying it in a pocket all day?

I'll muddy the waters a bit and ask if you've considered the Fenix L1T v2? Hi and Lo settings changed by loosening the head (which can be done with one hand) and has a nice forward clicky. Pretty bright on high (rated by Fenix, for what that's worth, at 98 lumens) and has a pretty nice beam, for a Cree (it's a Q2). A nice, simple, solidly built light.

I have all three and my vote goes to Lumapower Connexion X2 for having three easy to access levels and a nice clean beam.

Just one thing: you may wish to wait for another few days and see the first reviews of the new Nitecore EZ AA that is going to hit the market next week. You might like its compact size and two level operation. I am waiting for one too.

Thanks, the EZ looks pretty tasty! But when I told the dealer my requirements for single-handed operation, she suggested sticking with the D10.

I did, BigBluefish, and I like everything I read about the L1T except having to loosen and turn the head. For my single-hand use, I'd prefer to stay at the tail end of the torch.

Are there other single AA Fenix models that are simple to operate and clicky only?

Wow! The Ras look pretty nifty, Tekno. If I have a choice, though, I want to stick with the single AA form.

But I am intrigued by the options in the custom Ra model, particularly the wider beam pattern. That would be useful for night walking the dogs, yes?

That's something I would want. Do any of the Fenix, Nitecore or Lumapowers pocket models offer a wider beam pattern?

Thanks,

You can remove the head from the LumaPower ConneXion X2 and then you'll have pure flood. I've been using my ConneXion X2 without the head more often than with it screwed on. In my opinion this actually gives you 2 very different and useful ways to use this flashlight.
