The Fenix P2D is known for not working properly with a rechargeable battery. It lights up fine, but the modes all seem to be bright, regardless of how they're set.

Now the low setting will go almost forever with a standard 3.0-volt battery. My question is: Has anyone tried measuring runtimes with a rechargeable battery in the lower modes? Would the light eventually dim to the proper intensity and go from there, or would it continue for only the length of time one might expect for bright?

Finally, does the higher voltage in the P2D hurt it at all?

Thanks.

You can also get these from AW:

*** New LiFePO4 R123 $6.00 each. Shipping $3.50 up to 6 cells. Combo set ( charger w/ 2 cells ) $23.00. Shipping $5.5/set ***

They are 3.0v and will give you all of the modes with the P2D, unlike the 3.7v RCR123s which will lose the lower modes. They need a LiIon charger which can charge 3.0v batteries (the UltraFire UW-138 has a switch for this) - which is probably the charger he is including in his "combo set". :)

Look for user Chevrofreak, he has the info you are looking for.

NOte: I don't get a proper low mode (and the long runtime) with the LiFEPO4 batteries.

I got HIgh, med, med.

I have since sold my P2D because I wanted to use rechargables and I like my L1D...

Well then, I stand corrected - but better then reg RCR123's correct? I think when fully charged the LiFEPO4 should be 3.7v (compared to a fully charged RCR123 @ 4.2v), so it may take a bit to get low back - but shouldn't take that long. Personally, I really think the P3D is small enough for EDC, or the L1D if you want something even smaller, but just a little less bright.

The P1D, P2D are the only Fenix lights I don't plan on buying because of the limitations of rechargeables. Maybe they'll fix it soon, shouldn't be hard - then those little things would be excellent! - until then...they're not for me.
